PCI is a expansion slot.. There are also other expansion slots on computers depending on how old they are.. older ones have ISA and PCI, some have PCI and a AGP slot. AGP is used for graphics (Accelerated Graphics Port) and graphics cards today use PCI Express which is not backwards compatible with PCI. PCI also did have graphics cards but PCI is a dead end for graphics. Today PCI is used mostly for anything outside of graphics.. Sound, networking, RAID, TV tuners. There is also a PCI X slot that companies are trying to push into use.. Iv mostly only seen Network or raid cards for them, most computers have a free PCI slot or more. So, you do need a PCI slot for a PCI sound card, but you should have one open.
