F@H Spotlight #68

This is the 68th in the series of T32 Spotlights!!

NOTE: For how to go about nominating a fellow folder, please go to THIS THREAD, or better yet, you can PM me directly. To see the ever growing list of who has been interviewed and the expected date of the next spotlight, please go to THIS THREAD.

Time goes fast for sure! I've been the Spotlight Editor for almost a year now, and I must say I'm really enjoying this job!! I had interviewed almost 50 members of our team! 1 member per week! and I think I've got pretty much most of the active Team32 forum members here. (sorry if I've missed you! but do feel free to contact me! )

Anyway, here's one of the very last interviews that I have in my queue, there's a couple more that's awaiting for return. after finishing these, it will not be a weekly post anymore as I'm out of interviews! however, I will still interview on new members and keep posting it whenever I've got an nomination (p.s. self nomination is absolutely fine too!)!!

sooooo......... keep the nomination flowing (folding) guys!!!

This week's member who has just rocked our team member ranking recently, broke into the Top 10 Producer spot, and climbing up to your rear view mirror faster than you thought!!!

Now please give a warm welcome to..........................

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Again, Thanks for taking the time to allow me to interview you.
When did you join the Team? Approximate date is ok if you don't know the specific date.
According to the "New Members Post Here" thread, I came aboard May 5th, 2002. I do believe I switched back-and-forth between SETI and Folding a bit before settling down though.
If there was something recent that you did that you wanted your fellow teammembers to know about, what would it be?
Well, I just rejoined, or started folding again, after about a 3 year absence (I was in the military). I had noticed upon returning that I had stopped only a little over 3000 points short of 100,000, which was alot of points in 2003. The point structure has definately changed since I last folded. I see alot of team members with half the WUs completed as I have with up to 10X the points! In fact, I've put out as many points in two weeks as it took me an entire year to do in 2003! I also recently jumped into the Top 20 Producers
What is your EOC (extremeoverclockers) stats link?
EOC
You do not have to give specifics (address), but what State do you live in, and if you don't mind telling, what town? (town is not required, but if not a town, a general direction and distance from the nearest 'big town/city' would suffice)
I live in Lilburn, GA and work in Atlanta. I'm originally from Eastern Kentucky, however.
How did you initially hear about F@H?
Well, I was a big SETI contributor for a couple of years until our F@H team started up. I was never all too interested in it at first, but over time, I became curious. Due to it being so new, I found that it was much easier to be a top point producer, so I stuck with it. SETI had been taken over by the borgs and having my own little farm, I just found it impossible to compete any longer. Besides, I really liked the cause behind the project.
After starting, why do you continue to Fold?
The cause, in itself, is always going to be the primary reason for me to fold. The stats and friendly competition within the team keep it interesting and fun. I'm always going to do what I can to promote OCForums, as well!
What do you do for a living?
I'm a network/systems administrator for a business services corporation in Atlanta, GA.
What do you do for fun?
Aside from computers, I'm a movie-watching addict. I've got a collection of nearly 1500 movies at home and spend most of my free time watching those. More importantly, I love playing with my son, Joseph.
Is there anything special you do in your spare time that you really enjoy?
To be honest, I'd enjoy having some real spare time to begin with! Seriously though, I guess when it comes to spare time I'd consider it a vacation, in which I like to travel. I don't really enjoy the "travelling" part, but I love to see new places - mostly historical/ancient sites.
Time to spill your guts. What are the stats of your main folding rig? Why is it your fave? What all do you use the rig for?
I can't really say I have a main folding rig. My primary system is starting to show its age - X2 3800+ @ 2.5GHz/DFI NF4 Ultra-D/2GB Ballistix DDR500/Two 36GB Raptors in RAID 0 + 1.2TB/X800Pro 256MB/Audigy2 ZS - and my secondary is actually quite a bit faster - E6300 @ 3GHz/Gigabyte 965P-DS3/1GB Patriot DDR2-667@856/74GB Raptor. It's only my favorite system because it was built to be my primary. I'll be putting together something new towards the end of summer, most likely, and I plan on going all out. Mostly I do audio/video encoding, schoolwork (done, but soon to start my Master's), and general use. I've also got an E4300 @ 2.7GHz/Asus P5L-MX/1GB DDR2-667 and an 805D @ 3GHz/ECS P4M800Pro-M/1GB DDR400 with Ubuntu Linux on it that I like to use and have been sticking to the E4300 alot more lately. I don't plan on making Vista my primary OS, so I'm trying to get my Linux back up to speed. I guess you could say I favor whatever functionality I'm after at any given time.
Do you have a Borg-Farm? If so, how many computers, and what are they? (CPU, RAM)
Sure do. Just borged the most worthy non-production systems at my workplace. I guess I came up with a little over 100GHz of pure Intel. Almost all are 2.8GHz-3.2GHz HT-capable or Pentium-D class Dells with a Gig of RAM. Also have a couple of Conroe boxes thrown in (with Ubuntu on VMWare loaded for SMP-goodness, of course!). All in all, I think I have around 30-35 systems at work. If Stanford can get a Windows SMP client out, I'll be very happy since I only run one instance on them (most of them, at least!). At home, I've got 7 full-time folders - the X2, Conroe (VM linux SMP), Allendale (native linux SMP), P-D805 (native linux SMP), a P-M (Banias) 1.6@1.92GHz w/1GB (HTPC1), P4 2.53GHz w/512MB (HTPC2), XP1800 w/768MB, and a Celeron 2.66GHz w/512MB at my mother-in-law's :]
What are your future goals? What do you most want to accomplish with your life?
Well, I want to finish out my Master's degree in Information Systems with a concentration in security, since it's my background. As far as staying in the IT field, I'm not so sure - I'm actually going to begin doing some part-time work as a mortgage initiator and may switch over since it pays alot more and offers more free time. Other than that, as long as my family and I are happy and healthy, I can't really wish to accomplish more.
If there is something you want to tell the team, then spill your guts! What have I missed in my questions that could help the team learn more about you and who you are?
I just want to say thanks for having me on here. I had noticed this was new and wondered how you go about getting put in the "Spotlight" - I then received a PM! Other than that, I'm here for for the team and the forums if anyone ever needs anything! Fold on!
Thanks. I don't drink anymore (Steve can give you some reasons for that one!), but if you're moving in May, I'm always up for catching up with a fellow OC!
He's just now only about to hit 21 months. He's a big baby :] I keep trying to tell my wife he needs a quad-core, but she's not buying it
LOL! I miss that bird
That was probably the last weekend like that I've had...good times. Also had to be the worst drive home I've ever had. 10 hours with a hangover and the flu just doesn't mix...especially when you start driving at 10pm.
I never did get my fish bowl back
