Can you repair LCD screens?

Say hypothetically, someone was was swinging around a cool guy tool like it was a butterfly knife, and maybe that tool happened to fly out of someone's hands and hit an LCD screen.

A tiny little mark thats not noticeable, not even worried about repairing it, and another, small gouge that lets the backlight through... its not bad when web surfing and stuff but when watching videos it looks like a piece of rice is stuck to the screen. (A very small piece of rice)

Is there any way I can repair this without buying an entire new panel? Or should I just try blacking it out with a marker?

Thanks

Yes... but it will cost you about $80 and a bit of nerve.

What has happened is that the knife cut through the polarizer and exposed the glass of the LCD matrix. You will need to disassemble the LCD, soak off the polarizer via wet towel (8 hours water soak) and peel method. After which you can apply a replacement polarizer from sites such as www.polarization.com .

Well I will have to wait then until I get another LCD before I try fixing this one. Its tolerable for most functions, and TBH I could just get Olevia TV now and run that for HTPC and just use this screen for general usage.

Thanks for the replies. I may be hitting you up for more information in a few months

Yah its new, and has taken a relative beating since its my first LCD screen. I am used to my CRTs, so I have refrained from punching it, but it gets bumped a lot. Yah for 100 dollars or less its worth fixing. Its less then a month old.
