Troubles with Installation of XP

Okay so heres the deal,

The other day my PC randomly shut off and then every program I tried to access crashed. I also got a message sayign your PC will shut down in 60 seconds a few times. I believe I was hit witha virus, and I needed a reformat anyways, so I decided to just do a reformat. Simple enough...

Well, not so simple. I can get the hard drive reformatted, but when it tries to copy the files over to for the installation, it gets errors (the file changes all the time, it just gets errors period..). At first It thought maybe my XP CD was just too scratched, so I cleaned it a bit what not tried again, no luck, so I switched CDs to a new one of my friends, still no go. I then swapped HD's and tried that, still no luck. I switched CDROM drives, still no luck. I switched cords out, still no luck. I removed unneccesary hardware such as my sound card for now. Still no luck. the ONE time it managed to install everything, when it was installing devices and actaully installing windows it said it couldnt find the drivers at all. I have seen the damned blue screen too many times..

My question is, what else could it be that would prevent the files from copying...? I figured that the first problems would be CD, CD ROM, Cords, and HD, but Ive swapped all of those and I know the replacements work, so it makes no sense. I am not uber super knowledgable about PCs but I know enough to solve most of my problems, but this one I cannot solve, PLEASE help. THis backup PC is horrible, haha. Thanks.

Gotcha, but the next question is how to get it to that PC over there. They both lack floppy drives, heh. I dont have any RAM to swap with it either otherwise I would have tried that. Though, I dont know why I didnt question the RAM in the first place.. that or the MB, Ive had troubles with my MB from the get go, and other sections of it stopped functioning awhile ago.. (Ethernet died heh.)

You can get memtest on a bootable cd-rom or a bootable usb flash drive for that matter also.

Sounds like a virus attack. A firewall is required!

Another thing that also includes Memtest along with a few other helpful programs is the Ultimate Boot CD (also referred to as UBCD) which can be found here. I couldn't tell you how much time it has saved me when it comes to trying to figure out whats wrong with a rig.
