I was at Best Buy today and they had few DS-Lites in stock, but didn't want to pull the trigger right away.

Is there a way to back up your games and runs ISO's like you can do on PSP and if so how?

Also can you run homebrew and stuff like that?

I got PSP mainly for that reason, so just want to check if I can do stuff like that with DS.

Yes. The DS Homebrew scene isn't as developed as the PSP Homebrew scene (Because there is additional hardware you must purchase to actually start developing)

but there's alot of neet stuff out there. DSOrganize, for instance, turns your DS into a PDA. DSLinux is a full blown Linux distro for the Nintendo DS, and there's even a "Web Browser" (Text only) out for it too.

To do the homebrew and PDA stuff requires a fairly pricey add on that uses a cartridge, a DS gamecard and an SD card, then you can back stuff up onto te SD cards too, play MP3s and watch Mpeg2 and MP4 video. I was going to get one of these devices but it turned out to be too much of a hassle. If that is what you want it for then get a PSP or better yet a GamePark32.

Actually, I just got my friend started on Homebrew for $70, including 2GB of MicroSD cards.

The trick is to look for slot 1 devices, which sell for between 40-60 bucks and don't require you to have a GBA slot device for running the homebrew.

can you provide links for these types of things? Id like to try out homebrew on my DS lite, i hear you pretty much have to erase the whole operating system that it comes with in order to do it though. is that safe?

You don't have to do any of that anymore. I'm not sure if I can supply links or not.

modchipman.com has alot of these things. You can find them cheaper on sites like ioffer.com

Like I said, make sure you get one for the DS SLot, not the GBA slot, because getting one for the GBA slot means you need to buy a passme too.

Sounds like a pain in the ***. And then they haven't come out with a decent game since Hotel Dusk. Just get a new digital camera or something.

Considering it costs ~$50 to get a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, this is a mere $20 more, and extra gigs are $10 bucks each...

It's like getting a $70 PDA ;).
