3.06 nothwood worth $$$$?

Saw this on EBAY:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Pentium-4-IV-P4-...QQcmdZViewItem

I think I have a P4 3.06 in the basement. Are these worth that much money or am I missing something?

Hahaha, that is outrageous. That CPU definitely is not worth that kind of money.

Wow, someone is getting hosed. Honestly, i wouldn't pay more than 40 bucks for that CPU right now. LOL maybe not even that given the coming price drop in april.

Seeing things like that just makes me want to cry.

If you want top of the line, and your motherboard only supports 533, that IS your best choice. The 3.06s always sell high for that reason.

For that price you could buy a motherboard AND a processor that perform on that level. Plus it's only $75 at newegg.com NIB, if it ever comes back in stock.

I had the exact same chip when I replaced it with my old FX60 back in Jan06.

I threw the chip out! Its performance was so terrible, I thought I would spend more in shipping than what it was worth. Ah well. LOL

I think I got a 3.2GHz OC on air out of it, but it was probably close to thermonuclear meltdown. They were hot chips.

For reasons beyond my understanding, there are people waiting in line to purchase old computer technology at outrageous prices. You can purchase a new dual core 805 or some AMD equivalent at just about any online retailer at the same price that used PIII 1.4 Tualatins are going for over at eBay. This list goes on and on. Any sort of 30-capper Northwood or 2.8/3.0 and up Northwood, Prescott, and you name it will fetch a fair price. About a year ago I began selling my old computers at eBay so that I could carry two computers more able to run today’s games.

Why do they ask and pay the prices that that do? I’ve noticed that a lot of people have over inflated opinions of themselves and anything that they own is simply an extension of their ego… Some seem to get fixated on upgrading old computers or matching up that one last part and if that XXXXX part could just be had, all would be bliss. Then there are the egotistical one upper bidders that can’t be outdone. There are those too that are so unhappy with their lives that shopping is a more acceptable obsession/overindulgence than alcohol and or drugs… I’m sure that anybody could easily add to this list.

Since I fist began shopping eBay in 2003, I’ve been asking myself why! Despite weekly and sometimes daily surfing at eBay, I’ve only purchased three or four items. On the other hand, I’ve sold far more than I’ve bought.

My 3.06 ran very happy @3.7 ..and mighty cool with a Swiftech cooler...

Like has been said, if your on a 533FSB mobo, that chip is as good as it gets..Plus its a Hyper Treading chip...Those 3.06's were no slouch.

But, no way i would pay that much for one..hell, I got 2 or 3 here somewhere..Time to Ebay them

Thanks everone. I was going to give this computer to a friend.
No way not now. If I can get even 100 for the chip, 150 for 1 gig of rdram and another 50 for the mobo. 300 is enough for a nice upgrade.
