12,000+ 3Dmarks - What does it take??

I am looking to buy/build a new PC in the next 45 days or so. I want to make a PC that can achieve at a minimum 12,000 3Dmarks 2006. Thus far, the only PCs that I have seen that can achieve that or even 15,000 3Dmarks always had 2 Graphic Cards. Either 1900XTX or 7900GTX cards.

Is it possible to hit 12,000 or more 3Dmarks with a single 8800GTX?

What would you propose is the minimum Hardware I will need to hit anywhere between 12,000 and 15,000 3Dmarks. Naturally, I will watercool the PC and overclock it.

From the top of my head, a single 8800GTX should break 12k, as will a 640mb 8800GTS. A 320mb 8800GTS will do it, but it will need very high clocks.


Of course, this is all dependent on the rest of your system, but if you want 12k with a moderate system, a 640mb 8800GTS will certainly bring you there, or at least extremely close. Good luck!

I get over 12 pretty easily even with lax memory timings.
