...I might just go ahead and get an X1950XTX anyway.

Just because it's relatively cheap. And even after degrading ATI in every way I possibly could... even when I *had* ATI cards installed... over the past ten years or so. (11, to be precise, and it was for very personal reasons.)

But I always liked the X1950XTX. Something about the GDDR4 RAM, and that wonderful shade of red.

Sure... in the end I might say "Screw it" and get an 8800GTS 320... but at the moment you can get a 512mb X1950XTX for around the same price used.

Don't feel bad rainless, I too am guilty. Even when I had several ATI cards, I degraded and insulted them evry way I could. I've been looking into a 512mb card for upgrade and was looking at the 7900GTX. Love that massive card and with that heatpipe cooler and massive pipes it looks so ...evil, lol, but the X1950XTX has also caught my eye as well.
