planning to make dual core system
the candidate is Brisbane (cheaper) or Conroe (6320 or 6420)
brisbane is cheaper but i don't think can't achieve 3.0Ghz with ordinary chip or std batch, so need pick specisific chip to go near or pass 3.0Ghz :)

what i saw in most review that allendale n conroe mostly pass 3.0ghz
but heard from some forum that only 1st batch in golden batch, the newer one ( which i will find in market) won't oc that far easily,
for me pass 3.0ghz is enough, more than that is a bonus :)

so the main question is
do 6320 or 6420 which i buy in the market (no need to pick specisific batch)
can achieve 3.ghz???
becos if can't go 3.0ghz or more, i can't justified the price different :)

since i don't want to push my luck on getting good batch CPU,
do avg cpu can achieve 3.0ghz?

thx in advance

Yes, both the E6320 and E6420 should easily do 3 gig. That's assuming you have the proper supporting components and good cooling. Actually from what I've been seeing, the 6420 should do 3.2-3.4 gig.

While the 6320 is cheaper, you will need a motherboard and RAM to handle high FSB to overclock. I'd recommend the E6420. That will do 3.2 gig with 400 FSB which is a respectable goal. The nice thing about 400 FSB is that cheap DDR2-800 RAM will be right in spec. Also, most decent O/C motherboards can handle 400 FSB.

ok, thx bro
i will keep an eye on 6420
any suggestion on chipset? 965?

Yep, hard to beat the i965 chipset. The i975X can provide a little bit extra performance, but they generally are FSB limited and cost more. What features are you looking for and what is your budget?.

if use AM2, u planned to use brisbane x2 3600 with 2x1 GB 667 or 800
VGA on board n plan to buy 88 GTS when price fall with R600 enter the market.
but since K8 or K8L will bottleneck the 88 GTS @ 1280x1240 (i only have 19" LCD) maybe will upgrade to K10 when Agena comes :)

if using Intel i prefer using conroe 6420 with 2 x 1 GB + i965 + 8800 GTS :)
but off course i have to pay A LOT more in 1 time shopping :)
that's why i said i am @ crossroad :D

if got leak info how far K10 Agena performance against Conroe or Penryn, will make a lot easier to me to decide :D

RAM and vid card will cost about the same with both systems. Not much price difference between DDR2-667 and DDR2-800, so might as well get the DDR2-800 which works better for the E6420. So it really boils down to motherboard and CPU. The E6420 is $189 and the Gigabyte DS3 mobo is only $100 with free shipping at newegg right now (see link).

Dunno, that seems to be a pretty good bang for the buck.

If just between those 2, the x2 3600 and e6420 i'd go with the intel anyday, more bang for the buck. I just installed an x2 3600 oc'ed to 2.2 last night and i have a conroe e6300 see sig. 1M PI times are waayyyyyyy too far 39s vs 17s. No questions there. :)
