Graduation Present?

I needed some input on a graduation present. My mother said she would give me around $1000 and I needed some input. I will NOT spend any of this money on my computer, I have everything I need. I was thinking;

Catback exhaust for my 3.2TL, Stock or some form of investment, and a 30 year supply of TigerMilk bars. Any other suggestions?

Putting it in the bank and saving it, don't spend it. $1000 isn't much but that spare money might save you over a bill/payment/etc.

Save it. That car will last you 10 years, $1000 invested will save your ass later on, or just be something nice to have.

Dont put a cat back exhaust on a Japanese car - it would sound retarted.

Tiger's Milk bars are bad for you, so don't waste money on a 30 year supply. I'd just save it until you need it. Like someone else said, $1000 can come in very handy when you need it.

Radical, I was joking around with the TigerMilk bar thing .

I think I'm going to invest it into Stock / CD. Still open for suggestions.

For the guys, a typical graduation present is sometimes a fine watch. If this interests you, try reading through the recent watch thread. For $1000, you have a decent selection for a fine mechanical watch that should last you well past your 50s.

Personally, I never got a high school graduation present. My parents offered to (A) pay for a trip after my (undergraduate) University graduation, or (B) buy me a watch, but instead I went with a nice suit. My parents bought my sister a nice (albeit Quartz) Tissot watch after her high school graduation (or was it after her music degree?). Either way, there is an engraving on the back to mark the occasion.

I would probably either save it or give it to charity. That's just me though.

invest, or get some nice clothes / shoes. for me i haven't really gotten some nice newer clothes since my sophomore year, and i will definitely be putting some money into that.

i would invest it as well with the remaining.

thats your best bet ... just keep in mind that a cd will tie your money up for anywhere from 2-10 years and you will have to pay tax when you cash it out ... but at least its putting it to work for you ... another investment consideration is federal bonds but they are also term related ... but definately prevents spontaneous spending

Honestly congratulations. High School is a pain and you got through it. Reward yourself, treat the impulse spend like $300 to get the buying out of your system. Then you can save the rest for a rainy day. If you worked at all this year I would open up a Roth IRA and invest into that, if not then I would just buy an ETF that tracks one of the major indexes and just let it do its thing.
