since the L2 is 2mb vs 4mb on the e6600

Why not get an e6420 and narrow the gap?

umm, the 6600 comes stock at 2.4 ghz, the 6400 is like 2.1ghz, and yes, the Mb is double on the 6600, unless you get the 6420, wich has 4mb but the same stock clock speed as the 6400.
