eVGA sues XFX for 8600 Box Art

Seems that XFX put the eVGA logo in some dog drool on the box art for the XFX 8600.

http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=5319

This references the German version of the product, and if you're not aware including any direct reference to a competitor's product in advertisements is against German law. I was surprised to hear this when I lived in Germany for awhile; I don't know if other European countries have such laws.

Anyway, eVGA is none too pleased, and it seems the boxes are being pulled from shelves (according to the article, at least).

I don't see the point on the behalf of XfX. Yea, it is humorous, but I doubt it positively impacted their sales in any amount.

I can't believe anyone even noticed. It's almost impossible to see. Just sounds like an oversight. They created Boxart to be sold in a bunch of different countries and one happened to have a law against it.

Still very funny..

I have a feeling as well that the lawsuit will be baseless as the evga letters cannot be seen unless the artwork is blown up to a point that is beyond normal appearance..

Aww... come on eVga , lighten up a little. rival companies used to do this kinda stuff all the time before a bunch of... unnamed software giant XX xx bags went and set a bunch of BS Precedents.
As if there arent enough head lines about companies suing someone, and surely it cant be good for sales.
Anyone remember the Saturn? Sega made a commercial with the psone getting busted cause of its PUNY single processor compared to Sega's 3, heh

eVga should take it as a compliment. They could have put another companies name there.
