i have been looking for anti - spyware/ adware for x64, anyone have any thoughts? success? i have spysweeper 4.5 or 4.7 whichever it is that is on the disk with 5.0, it runs but takes forever in compatibilty mode,5.0 won't run at all, also not getting everything, so i am trying to find some other stuff to run also. i have everything in sticky's to clean my 32 bit systems , don't know how compatible they are with x64.

any help will be appreciated ! thanx----------------thing

unless webroot has changed it ver 5 is not 64 bit compatible, i have it, i'll check the others, i just downloaded some of these due to the stickys above, going to try running them later today, i'll let you know how they go, i want one to run every boot but others to run everyso often to clean anything missed , like in the sticky's, i never trust my system to just one company's idea of what security means.- thanx---------------------thing

Spybot Search and Destroy together with Lavasoft Adaware are all you'll need to catch 99.99% of spyware. Run Hijack this! and you'll have a complete picture of what is and is not on your machine.

Other than this, unless you're surfing dodgy sites and/or downloading over peer-to-peer, the only spyware prophylactic you'll ever need is to simply not use IE. Also, run a decent anti-virus client and run crap cleaner once in a while...

[COLOR="Blue"]Thanx, i'll give it a whirl, i stopped using IE again as soon as i aced a server 2003 class, i remember why i stopped using it now! crashes and junk , aside from updating the last time i used |IE to browse i think aol had just started 19.95 unlimited internet service and netscape was still 4.xx i'm trying firefox now but it looks like IE so much that it gives me the heebee jeebees.

my biggest is my wife opeming her sisters e-cards and other junk from her cousin. keeps me busy!

The main issue with IE is active-x, which allows "drive-by downloads". Since other browsers such as Opera and Firefox don't have active-x, you're not faced with this issue.

One extension for Firefox which is a good good security measure is No Script. This disallows all but explicitly allowed javascript from running.

Also, ensure that user accounts other than your own are not set up with administrator privileges. This will prevent unsuspecting individuals from installing spyware programs which they believe they "must have."

yeah , i know about admin rights, she has hers and i have mine, even on hers she is just a user! :-) my life is easier that way.thanx for the help.

NoScript rocks my socks and makes all that crap bounce off. Such a feature should really be built in on ALL browsers—default deny javascript execution renders you a lot safer as you can explicitly then grant permission to the sites you trust.

FYI, while viewing this page, I have NoScript in Firefox (Mac OS X 10.4.9—x86-64-BSD) enabled, and ocforums.com is an allowed site. I still have 17 other <script> tags visible...
