Limited or no connectivity, wired, one onboard one not

I'm using:

A64 3700+
ASROCK Dual SATA2
2GB DDR400 (4x 512MB GeIL Value)
6800GT
XP Pro SP2

And two ethernet adapters - one onboard, and one generic PCI one - both 10/100.

Both adapters are saying "Limited or no connectivity" in the connections folder, neither will allow me to 'repair' it, telling me an IP address cannot be acquired. The same happens when I do "ipconfig /renew". I have tried restarting and it did not fix this. I have also tried unplugging the network cables, swapping them, again - no luck. This happened when I installed NOD32 and rebooted to complete installation.

One is normally used to connect to the outside world (onboard) and is set to automatically obtain an IP address. To connect to the internet a university gateway intercepts my request and asks me to log in to their bluesocket gateway with my uni username and password - this does not come up. The other (PCI) is used only to connect to another machine via crossover - this one has its IP specified.

The uni network isn't down as I'm posting this from my fiancee's room and her connection is fine. It makes me think it's a windows problem as it just popped up out of the blue on both my ethernet adapters. I have also tried this one my second machine, cable connected to the same socket and it works fine. I have tried disabling the IMON component (internet monitoring) of NOD32.

Does anyone know what I can try please?

Edit: I uninstalled NOD32 and restarted. Now my 'outside' connection works and I can access the internet and the uni network. However, the crossover connection still doesn't, so I am not sure whether it was the random chance of the restart 'fixing' the main adapter or uninstalling NOD32. Regardless, one is still not working.

Also tried the suggestions on this page, to no avail: http://www.pchell.com/support/limitedconnectivity.shtml

I fixed it by chance. It was something to do with my PocketPC being connected via its USB cable at the time when my machine was restarted. This somehow messed up the IP addressing, I don't know how. Anyway, I unplugged it and fixed the addresses.

I suspect I haven't noticed this before because I normally have my PocketPC in my pocket, but it's broken now so it's plugged in constantly.
