Some time ago I've read that -i guess it was- asus has a method to set the multi free for e.g. the E6300 (and all the others). Is it true?
If not, is there a method how to get the multi free?
If it is true, is this only possible for asus boards or even for some/all other boards?

You mean to "un-lock" the multiplier?
IFAIK, the 6800's, maybe the 6700's, have the full capability to adjust the multiplier both ways. The others, only lower.. Like mine, 8 and lower.
You can do that with most newer intel mbs..

yeah, to unlock...
and there is no way to "higher" it? th 6300 is a good cheap thing and it would be cool, to overclock it to its near limits. is there any way to do so?

Nope, not with the 6600 or lower. Unless you're really limited in what you can spend, I would get the 6400 just for the higher multiplier. Or wait till July and the next price drop if your $s are limited and you can wait.
