aam only with hitachi?nnn

I/ve used the Hitachi/IBM feature tool to quiet down the seek noise of my 500 gig hitachi (although the difference isnt that great because the drive is quiet to begin with, I can also use this software to look at the western digital raptor.(it even sees the drives when they are in raid on an nf4 controller)However i do not hear much of a difference despite turning the aam to 128. Am I deluding myself that this app should work or is it just teasing me> Has anyone gotten AAM to work with raptors in raid?
