A couple of months ago I had a pretty decent Pentium 4 Northwood die on me, and I was in dyer need of a new computer. So, I practically wasted 400 bucks on a Compaq computer with a 3.33ghz Celeron Cedar Mill in it.

Anyways, with all that behind, I have decided to upgrade my processor and mobo, along with a new case and power supply. I'm pretty content with the EVGA 7800gtx I bought recently and I have 2GB of Kingston DDR2 RAM (However, only 1GB will work with Windows, despite the 2GB limit described on the Compaq motherbard specifications). A friend of mine who is a regular on OCForums, PWatterson, recommended the new E2140 processor from Intel. I was impressed by a user getting 3.2GhZ out of it with a stock cooler and a minimal voltage increase, along with the very low price for it. Although I am very convinced with the E2140, I've also read that an E4300 is pretty equal and also has a 2mb cache, but for only 20-30 bucks more.

The motherboard also recommended to me was the GIGABYTE 965P-DS3, since it overclocks well ( from what I've heard ).

My main point is basically what the majority of the members of OCForums would have to say and give advice to which processor I should get, since it is a budget system. The case is up to my discretion (but suggestions are welcome :p ), however I barley know anything of power supplies, I just know that my 400w bestec will certainly be underpowering my components if I do upgrade, let alone it's already underpowering them.

Thanks alot, and I would greatly appreciate some advice!

At the very least... Intel is cutting prices come July 22nd. I'd say if you can wait until then to make a purchase, do so. Do you research on PSUs, motherboards, memory, etc between now and then. You'll be able to get more than an E4300 for the same money with the new round of CPUs out mid summer.

Thanks for the replies, and I think I'm going to go with drshivas's suggestion; Just wait until the price drop, I noticed a quad core is going down to $266 dollars, which is really worth it.
