Sony, Nintendo say 'No' to AO-rated Manhunt 2

Man, the good news just keeps piling up for R* and T2, doesn't it?

Quote:
Nintendo of America
Games made for Nintendo systems enjoy a broad variety of styles, genres and ratings. These are some of the reasons our Wii and Nintendo DS systems appeal to such a broad range of people. But as with books, television and movies, different content is meant for different audiences. That's why the ESRB provides ratings to help consumers understand the content of a game before they purchase it. As stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO-rated content on its systems
I'm not honestly sure what to think here. I mean, this almost hearkens back to the old Nintendo. Y'know, the whole 'Seal of Quality' years? Nintendo desperately needs mature games if they want to attract a larger audience of more mature gamers. They'll carry it if it ends up w/ an M rating, but only then. If R* gets overturned on their appeal of the AO rating, they're going to have to seriously edit the game if they want it to carry the M rating.

Mind you, they could also just keep the AO rating and drop the Wii release all together, which may be more profitable for them in the end rather than re-constructing their whole freaking game.

Pulled via Kotaku

Edit: According to this GameSpot article, Sony has also said 'No way, Jose!' to an AO-rated Manhunt 2.

Looks like R* will be leaving a lot of the game on the cutting room floor if their appeal to the ESRB fails. I wonder how this will effect the July 10 release date?

Sony has also said 'no' to the AO-rated Manhunt. I don't think comparing it to the Mortal Kombat debacle is truly fair. Nintendo has since started supporting M-rated games.

I use to be all for allowing violent video games but this game is so over the top that I can not in good consiuence support it. It's violent just for the sake of violence. I'm really amazed that Rockstar was surprised by all of this.

I'd guarantee that R* planned this. Money cannot buy the amount of advertising they're getting on this.

They've pro'lly got a 'this will get an M rating' version and 'this will get an AO rating' version. They drop the AO one on the ESRB, it gets blasted. Then they drop the M version on them, it gets passed. Free publicity. There is no such thing as bad press.

Up the res, add some achievements, and port it to the 360. I'll buy the damn thing. I enjoyed the first Manhunt, and all this bad press has me wanting more.

Microsoft also has a 'No AO-rated games' policy. You won't see it there, either.

R* either has to hope they win the appeal, or make some cuts.

Why ban it? Just don't buy it if you don't like it. Other people want to play the game.

yeah people should be able to make up their own minds on if they want to play it or not. I was never really excited for this game or anything, but Nintendo does need some mature games on their system to help drop their kids only image..even Reggie Fils-aime said he wanted to see more mature games for the Wii, they're not really off to a bang with their 90% mini-game titles making up their library.

Then what IS in good tastes? No matter your answer, it honestly doesn't matter. ( its a rhetorical question ).

Your answer doesn't mean anything, because its based on YOUR OWN opinions, and morals. Which, there is no set standard, and should not be either.

Leave your morals for you to decide what you want to buy. but don't think that your morals are high enough to decide what I or anyone else can do with their money.

/back to topic

This whole AO thing is getting annoying. Nintendo KNOWS it needs some more mature content for the Wii. Its not like this is a pornographic game or anything. it just has alot of violence. Which, there has yet to be a study proving that game violence = real life violence.

amazingly, violence dropped to a all time low on the same year Grand Theft Auto 3 hit the shelves.

Parents should step up, and know what their kids are playing, and know if their kids have the mentality to handle such games. stuff like this should not be delegated by the government. I understand that nintendo has the right to do this, as its THEIR console. So be it, its their right to do so. i still think its a dumb decision on their part...but not my place to say what they should and shouldn't do on their console.

Its not like it used to be. the economy is so screwed up right now, you almost NEED both parents working, so they can raise a kid, and pay bills. Leaving some outside source to watch the kids ( baby sitter...etc.. ). or not having ANY supervision at all. If the economy was better, then one of the parents COULD stay home, they could supervise and teach their kids better than they can now. But as it gets harder for every generation to do this, it also makes it harder to make sure that kids are getting adequate supervision by the parents.

~sigh~ Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.

What is in good taste then? If I want to murder people in a video game or see nudity, I should be able too. Why should anyone be able to tell me as an Adult, that I can't? This is just another scape goat moral issue, when will people wake up?

Was nothing to do with my morals, i was voicing an opinion which afik i am allowed to do under the freedom of speech act. Nintendo obviously feel that the game is not suited to there family orintated machine and have acted accordingly which i agree with.

Lets face it the game is just another excersise in R* trying to sell a game using hype and outrage. Hot coffe etc spring to mind.

Imo they havent made a decent game since GTA3 and maybe midnight cub 2 at a push and imo manhunt 2 looked cack anyway.

If you want adult games buy an adult console. Nintendo have always been orientated towards the family market, which you were probably fully aware of at Wii purchase time.

I applaud Nintendo for being different in a situation that could clearly cost the a lot of money in lost revenue.

P.S The game has been banned completely in the UK so it aint just me who beleives this garbage should not be on the shelves.

Just so everyone is clear about it Sony wont allow this on their console either and Microsoft also doesn't allow AO games on their console. It's not just Nintendo so stop trying to make them into the company for kids.

Leisure Suit Larry was on both the PS2 and Xbox1. It was close enough to AO for me, it had boobies which is rare for non underground/porn pc-games in North America
