GeForce and 1080p

Does the GeForce 8800 series support a 1080p output?

Thanks!

Technically any video card with a DVI output can do 1080p. Now if you're talking about HD Encryption... that could be a little different. But you can even do 1080p resolution with a VGA connection. So don't worry about it.

HDCP, most new stuff has it now I think.

8800 has no problems with 1080p, I run it on my LCD TV fine. I have lots of older cards that do 1080p as well, the biggest problem is a card has to display 1920x1080 pixels, its a fair workout for the card, so it's more a matter of how well it will do 1080p.

Well do you have a PC bluray (there's no "e") drive? Because if THAT's what you're talking about, then it's not a question of 1080p, it's whether or not the video card helps to accelerate HD playback. That's a completely different story and you should refer to the recent Tom's Hardware article I linked to in another thread (in the General GPU forum).

That really depends on a variety of factors: Such as whether you're using XP or Vista. It seems in XP the 8800 series will do slightly better than the 8600GTS series (which has purevideo support) whereas in Vista both the 8600 and 8500 series have MUCH better playback.

let me guess..do you have a toshiba regza?

i have a toshiba regza 42HL196, it accepts up to a 1080i input only, but then it upconverts or outputs to 1080p.
the 8800 gts looks great on my tv with 1920x1080 @ 30 hz resolution.

You could just install AnyDVD HD:

http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvdhd.html

It strips out the HDCP on the fly, so you could use whatever connector you like.
