I just finished with my main rig and have decided to build a htpc for the tv that I am going to buy. The rig will be connected to a 42" vizio lcd 720p tv.

I already have a e6420, sata dvdrw drive, and floppy drive that will be used in this rig. For the rest I have decided on the following:
Silverstone LC20 case

Gigabyte DS3R
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813128050
ATI TV Wonder 650
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16815294001
FSP Group 400watt power supply
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817104953
Crucial ballistix 2gb ram (2x1gb)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820146565
Samsung Spinpoint 500gb 7200rpm sata2
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822152052
TrendNet wireless adabpter

I am unsure about the video card. Right now I am between these two:
Sapphire Radeon x1950PRO
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814102075
Sapphire Radeon x1650xt

Which card should I go with? Am I missing anything else? Thanks

I'd recommend a Seasonic power supply, or Corsair if you need/want modular cables. I've never heard of that wireless adapter, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything :) I don't believe the 650 has HD capability, though I'm not sure you're interested in that. Concerning the motherboard, my DS3 has some interesting component locations on the board. You may want to check to see if your DS3R has any issues with where you want to put things in your case.

If you are going to use it for HTPC only (which I would expect from having a separate game rig), then I would get either an NV8600 or wait for the ATI 2400/2600 series which should be out in the next few weeks. I personally am waiting for the new ATI cards.

first things first, YOU DONT NEED A FLOPPY DRIVE! LOL

anyways..

case is fine, you dont need that high quality of motherboard, video capture card is decent altho i would've went with a hauppauge, unless you are overclocking which i dont recommend for a HTPC you dont need high quality ram like the ballistics, the hard drive is a great choice. I dont recommend wireless on your HTPC if you are streaming to other pc's because even tho its 108mbps its gonna be slow and sometimes dodgy.

You could choose a mATX board and save some room but its really up to you.

I would suggest some cheaper ram that doesnt have a MIR like the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146569 especially if you are not overclocking.

as for video card i would suggest if your not gaming on it to go with something less powerfull. a 7100GS runs 1080i 1920x1050 just fine on my 42" plasma for videos with no lag.

if you hooking up to a HDTV via HDMI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150235 that should work just fine, and still get decent gaming fps but not very good gaming card.

Gaming ability of the htpc is of no concern to me since I have my main rig for that. I do like the hdmi output on that 7600gs, since the tv has 2 hdmi inputs.

since Gaming is no problem, what about overclocking? if your not overclocking get a cheaper board with decent board with onboard sound and a decent amount of sata connectors.

also if you do decide on wireless, make sure you get a decent router that can actually do 108mbps with the adapter you chose.

as other said, I would definitely wait another week or two for the HD2400/2600 for the same or even less money!! and they have native HDMI output that support for video & audio!!

also, I too agree if you are not o/c'ing the HTPC, get some cheaper/striped mobo and cheaper ram. and another vote for Seasonic here! very good quality and very quiet PSU!!

if wireless is your only option, may be you want to invest on a draft-N wireless network (gosh, I can't believe I actually said that... :p ). no, it will not give you those number as advertised. but it sure will give you much better than G or those "turboG" bandwidth!

At first I was thinking of overclocking but since my 6420 takes alot of juice to oc I will just leave it at stock and get a cheaper mb and ram.

I wont be building this rig for another month so I will be waiting to see the 2400/2600 cards.

Any suggestions on a cheap mb with sata that is very stable?

Thanks
