i see how all these motherboards have 2 pci-express slots, although not all of them are actually x16... one is x16 and the other x8 for example, or they say 8x electical or what not.... i'm not understanding all of the x... stuff.

i'm trying to find a motherboard that will support sli and don't want to waste my money on a expensive card when it will only be undercut by my motherboatd.

thanks

was looking at this board... from what i can see it shouldn't limit my graphics cards

As far as I know the only boards that will run SLi are the Nvidia based boards. They will either run dual 16x or duel 8x – as far as I know the only boards that run something like 16x and 8x is with a crossfire setup ATi.

I run a p5n-e from asus

and though when I run SLi my board is only duel 8x I don’t feel like being held back at all with my 8800gts(s) – I messed up my motherboard though and am getting a newer model that has duel 16x slots, so I’ll be able to make a good comparison to see if in fact duel 8x slots do hold you back. I’m thinking they don’t though :)
