Why is that? It just keeps going back and forth with the multiplier and overall mhz.... bus and ram FSP stay the same though...

did you disable speed-step or w/e it is called?

Its the Intel thing that saves energy when the cpu is not fully utilized. You can disable in BIOS. During full load, like when you play a game or when you fold, it should stay at 4500mhz.

Exactly!

Disable "Speedstep" (EIST)
Disable "C1E"

you guys were right... as soon as I started benching it stayed at top settings.... but I don't think I want to turn it off... heck I wish it worked even more so.... I wish it took cpu multiplier to 1X when the % usage was less than 10%.

Whats this C1E you're talking about?

I think you can set "custom" settings for that using third-party software set to start at bootup - CrystalCPU I think does this for SpeedStep, as well as CnQ (for AMDs).

This gets talked about, over and over and over and over and over, and over again.. I think it really deserves a sticky.

Hi -

Check out this link:

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...ures-p4-2.html

It appears to be another (more intrinsic) form of "EIST" (SpeedStep).

I disable both, and it's usually considered SOP for overclocking.

Ahhh...OK, I didn't initially pay attention to this part of your response 'cuz it didn't pertain to me, and you addressed me directly in the 2nd part of your post.

Here's the reason why these technologies are problems for overclockers:

Both of these technologies lower the multi and the Vcore depending on demand (load demand for EIST, and "pause/idle" states for C1E). The multi drop component of these technologies is not a real issue, unless you personally don't like it (I don't). But the Vcore drop component has the potential to cause problems.

Why?

Because as overclockers, we raise Vcore to attain higher clockings, and sooner or later, with a high enough clockspeed, the lowest EIST Vcore setting will no longer support the CPU at the higher than stock clockspeed. It's that simple. So if not disabled, EIST will lower the Vcore below what is required to maintain stability at higher clockspeeds (or even preclude the system from booting).

If you OC reasonably high (around here, many would say "minimally"), you will eventually run into this problem.

Hope my response makes sense.

Right, but not everyone likes to increase their VCore, and run it at stock. If the VCore doesn't change, there isn't any issue.

Agreed!

Well, we both have a Chi-town connection, right? So you know we're good!
