Possibly buying a Wii, PSP or DS

Not sure which purchase would be the wisest. All seem to have great titles and all are below 300$

I've been looking ad the PSP community, it seems really large, not to mention some of the games just look great.

The Wii is pretty neat, I played it at my friends a few times. Only played Wii sports and Zelda though. What strikes the most intrigue in me with this system is Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition - it looks like a great time.

The Ds, really the last option on my list. Some neat games like sudoku and brainage, not to mention that it is a casual console.

That's a pretty tough call... Currently ZERO decent games are being released for any of those systems. But as far as existing games go, the DS Lite has more decent games than the other two systems combined:

Age of Empires 2
Phoenix Wright
Phoenix Wright 2
Hotel Dusk
(Sigh) New Super Mario
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
That OTHER Castlevania Game
Metroid Prime Hunters
Elite Beat Agents

I'm sure there are others I've forgotten.

PSP

Killzone Liberation
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
GTA: Liberty City Stories
GTA: Vice City Stories
Tekken: Dark Shadows

I think that's all I could safely recommend.

Wii:

The Game That Comes with the System
Zelda

*woooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrshhhhhhhhhhhhh* (sound of tumbleweeds.)

If you didn't already play Resident Evil 4 two F'N years ago, then that may be fun now.

As far as the future goes... My money would have to be on the DS. They already HAVE online games. (And not just F'N Pokemon either...) Mario Kart is online, I believe New Super Mario is Online, Metroid Prime is online. It's really hard to believe that these systems were made by the same company, but they were.

Harvey Birdman: Attorney of Law is coming to the PSP. That might be a contender to the presently absent Phoenix Wright. But other than that I've given up on my PSP.

The titles coming out for the Wii do not look enticing. Most seem very childish and not worth the effort.

The PSP has some interesting RPGs coming out that really strike my interest( D&D Tactics, FF-Tactics: Lion's war, Devil May cry)

The DS has some interesting games out, but most of the games do not look enjoyable. I can imagine that I'd play Age of Empires 2 the most.

Have to agree with the Rainman here, although the PSP can run emulators, homebrew games and PS1 games downloaded from the PlayStation Network and Sony is promising a lot of content coming soon. I'd as of this second choose the DS, but if you choose the PSP, I'd wait for the PSP-slim in September.

I vote for the Wii.

Theer are Good games for it:
Zelda, Resident Evil Wii, Super Mario Paper.
Warrio wares is interesting aswell, and Mario Party 8 is Fun when you have friends over.

Also Smash is coming out before the end of the year. Metroid Prime 3 end of the Summer.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers looks promising.

I'm interested in the new Mario coming out for Wii, Super Smash Brothers (omfg the gamecube version owns), and Metroid. There haven't been a lot of good 3rd party games on a Nintendo console in a long time, but even the "childish" first-party games are worth playing.

Not if you're not into small furry animals, coins, turtles, and leprechuns.

When I come home from a hard day and want to kill something, I don't want it to disappear in a puff of smoke and be replaced by a dancing coin. (The overwhelming majority of adult gamers seem to agree with me... at least as far as software sales are concerned.)

@OP - If you want out of all that Disney BS, then the PSP is really your only option. It does have some interesting games coming out if you're looking to the future, I was just thinking of games that were currently available. There are more... what would be referred to here as "good games" for the PSP then there are for the Wii. (Not just "interesting" or "fun to play when you have friends over" but actual, good to great stand-alone games.)

I'd forgoe Fudge's advice on waiting for a slim version and get a 2.71 or lower used version, if you can find it, or a 3.01 or lower new version... if you can't. So that you can run custom software and have the benefit of emulators, PS1 games... etc.

Once you add the PS1 library to the PSP... there's really NO CONTEST as far as good games are concerned... particularly in the realm of RPGs since you seem to be interested in that.

And why haven't you been on Live recently Eliff? Many's the time I've wanted to chainsaw somebody yet no Eliff in sight...

Best to get on the Nintendo wagon, with the sales soaring they've got a ton of publishers with their eyes on that market size. There will be a lot of games heading to the Wii and the DS before Christmas.

I got a PSP on day one, but it's size prevented it from going everywhere with me. IMO it's been on a downhill slope ever since it started, the good titles are few and far between and I only play it on the move.. Unless you're going to run emulators on it, you're stuck with clunky UMDs. The only thing I use it for is when I travel by train/bus/plane, the PSP is a good addition to a backpack because you can watch movies on it.

Rainless, there are good games to be had if you a) Open your eyes and b) Stop drinking your Haterade. Not to mention the AAA titles that Nintendo is releasing, plus the offerings from Grasshopper Manufacture's Suda Goichi, but there are plenty of great offerings beyond Zelda (which I never found all that fantastic. Sure it was good, but not great like Ocarina is). Off of the top of my head, there's SSX Blur, Super Swing Golf, RE4:Wii, Godfather: Blackhand Edition, Trauma Center, Excite Truck, Rayman Raving Rabids (they're already in production for Rabids 2), Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and more. Not to mention titles that are in development like Disaster: Day of Crisis and the mysterious Project S that both Suda Goichi and Hideo Kojima are going to be working on.

Feel free to call me a fanboy all you like, but I am absolutely sick and tired of people not giving the damn thing a fair shake, if you will, before screaming at the top of their lungs 'ZOMG T3H WII (LEIK PENIS LOL) HAZ NOOOO GAEMS ROFL!!1'.

Back to the OP's question, as it stands right now, I'd seriously consider the DS. The sheer volume of the damn things on the market is making 3rd parties take notice and they're really starting to do incredible things with it. It's a bandwagon to seriously consider hopping on if you wanna go mobile. I'd wait a bit on the PSP and see what Sony manages to do with it regarding it's download service. It might be cool to have a few old PS games to play while on-the-go, and Lord knows that there are an awful lot of cool ones to pick from.

I'd suggest a Wii merely due to the fact that there are some really killer AAA titles on the way from Nintendo and other 3rd parties like Bandai/Namco, Harmonix, Konami and Grasshopper Manufacture. Also, the VC is really starting to flesh out with some great older titles from lots of older consoles, including stuff you may have missed the first time around. In the end, it's all up to you and picking only one of those doesn't mean you won't ever be able to buy another one of them. Buy according to your needs, and revisit purchasing a different console at a later date. Just make sure you're happy with what you grab

So I went to four stores today to see if they had the Wii in, none of them had any. After that, my friend got listings for local stores, all told me the same verdict. It's a silly that the systems been out for a little while and they still only send 5 or 6 consoles to each store.

Geuss I'll wait and consider my options

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That's cute Oni. But it just so happens that not a single one of those games you mentioned (with the exception of RE4, which I already mentioned) is "great."

This isn't MY opinion of course. It's the opinion of all the Wii owners on this site (except you) and the reviews that I read. Go back to the SSX Blur thread, for example, and see if you can find anybody that called it "Great."

GTA: Liberty City Stories, is great. Phoenix Wright: Attorney at Law is great. Resident Evil 4 is even great... but I already mentioned that.

But there are simply not more than four or five games in the entire Wii catalog that can be considered great. Only one Wii game that I know of has online functionality and it's a F'N kids game. And those AAA titles you keep talking about will only be B- titles to somebody who isn't as enamored with Nintendo as you are.

Like I've said many... MANY times... I've got nothing against Nintendo (I own a DS). I just think they're a bunch of F'ups.

It's because you care

I say looks at what you are going to do and what the DS and PSP will offer you.

Personally I'd get a PSP, but I generally recommend the DS to most people.

Oni, I probably like Nintendo maybe 75% as much as you, but seriously Excite Truck and Rayman should NOT be on your list of GREAT or even GOOD games for the Wii. Those games both got old VERY quickly.

The PSP seems to offer better RPG element games, isnt there an ogre battle tactic for it?
Really I'm all about the RTS and RPG, and I Don't want to buy a PS3 or Xbox360 because I believe they are too expensive.

I would say buy a Wii, but thats a completely biased opinion. I personally want a Wii soooo bad. Had a PSP already, and there wasnt too much I wanted to play on it.

i have a Wii and a DS.....and NEITHER have too many games that *I* enjoy that much. The wii has its share of decent games...but only a few titles..more will release in the future...but again..thats the future.

the DS has its share of great titles as well...BUT it appears as a majority of those titles are just re-makes of older games, and the RPG's on the DS are...well...gimmicky.. More-so than almost any Wii game. they don't feel right to me...their just a story wrapped around a touch screen ( thats how it feels to me ).

the PSP HONESTLY looks promising now. Sony isn't killing it...since they are going to be coming out with the PSP-lite thingy ( aka: smaller PSP, better battery, better screen...etc..etc.. ). More and more games are comming out on it. Final Fantasy Tactics is being re-made on it ( with a few updates ), along with Dirge of Cerberus!!! ( ZOMG I CAN'T WAIT!!! ). Plus, there appears to be some decent RPG's on it ( that is...appears...i havn't played any of them yet).

this is coming from a sony hater. since sony has been pulling their SH*T recently...i REALLY hate them. they broke the straw when they forced Lik-sang.com to close down due to the sheer number of lawsuits they threw at them.

i'll be buying a PSP when they release the new slim model. hopefully, i can get ahold of the limited edition "Darth Vader-White " edition! ( and it comes with the newest starwars battalion game as well! ).

honestly, it looks like sony got FINALLY their heads out of their ass regarding the PSP. instead of trying to shove down a million Movies for the damn PSP...they are finally focusing on GAMES. and they are updating their PSP as well.

that, and you can't find a Wii anywhere yet anyways. the PSP just dropped its price ( well, not JUST...but relatively recently down to 169 new i believe).

dunno...for now i'd say screw the Wii. great system...but it DOES have a lack of games.

as for the DS vs. PSP...just go to your local gamestop/EB games or whatever store you have, and browse the game section. look at which handheld system has more games to your liking, and pick that system.

Hehe, what?

Are you kidding me? While the PSP may have more RPG's, the DS has more good ones. And the touch element is interesting for some (Rocket Slime, for one).

Well WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?!?! And why are you selling the 360? I know it's been a month since anything decent has come out for it...but I'm still going through a backlog of games. I still have to beat Dead Rising. I still have to unlock Steve Austin in Smackdown (I'm not a fan... but I have to unlock him to do the legends challenge) I'm only on like level 3 of GRAW. I can't imagine you've beaten more 360 games than I have. I gaurantee you I bought all of them cheap. Hell... YOU could be helping me beat f'n GRAW while you got your 360 up for sale...

PSP does have some awesome games coming out. God of War is about to come to PSP. Then again, Ninja Gaiden is coming to the DS. (God of War will probably be awesome, I'm pretty skepticle about Ninja Gaiden.)

I'm really not imagining things with the Wii. I would already own one (I've already owned one) if it showed any promise. But people are looking forward to Super Smash Brothers and another Mario Kart. Those games do NOTHING for me. Metroid will probably be cool. But I wouldn't pay $300 just to play metroid.
