I've been folding on my New C2D rig now for about a month, though I came home today to see that FAH was sleeping.

It seems to download Core_a1.fah 5 times (trying to run it after each "VALID" download), before this, where it trys to run it 3 times and then sleeps.

Any tips?

I read about this before. People ran across this when they turned off their windows password or if it was too short.

Not saying thats the cause for you but its something to think about.

I won't put that out of mind, though I haven't done anything with my password since I installed Windows on this machine (i.e. before I installed Folding)
 
I've had a problem when I set the fah directory, inside a FAH directory. I don't know what the problem was since obviously \FAH is not \FAH\fah, but as soon as I deleted the fah directory, and just installed it to the FAH directory, it was fine.

That was with the uni-processor client, btw.

I notice you're not using the default directory names for the SMP client. With a beta release, could that be the problem?

Try it with the default directory names, and see if that fixes things.

I'd give it a full point-blank shot to the guts, wipe WinSMP completely off of your system, then re-download it from Stanford's site and reinstall. Run install.bat once it's done installing, enter in your account name and password, and then see how it does. :thup:

re-running the install.bat fixes many problems --- sorry it doesn't eliminate eue's or hardware instabilities tho :D

make sure the the client is stopped and then check that mpiexec.exe is not running still ... it often hangs around after an error .... killl it with taskmgr if it is.
Sometimes the client will start fine after doing this.

If not, then run install.bat after making sure the client and mpiexec are stopped.... it won't hurt anything and will just re-register mpiexec and smpd.exe.

This has solved 99% (maybe 100% but i can't remember :eek: ) of the issues i have had with win smp client under wxp.
 
Gulp eventually got it working, but he basically wiped out all the folding stuff and did a complete reinstall. A pain in the butt, and you lose any work you had, but it is up and running again.

There is no reason to wipe out the Work folder and queue.dat when you're having registration/permission problems. In fact, there is almost never a reason to do so. Reinstalling FAH to the same directory will leave them intact. Two reasons I can think of; If the deadline for the WU has expired, wipe them out, and if you've got a bad WU that gets deleted by the client and the AS automatically gives you the same WU again, wipe them out. If you plan on installing FAH to a different directory, move Work and queue there before you install FAH and all will be OK.
