Incredible 3-D display

I work for a gaming company and some of us were just shown a proto version of a new product we are about to launch. The display in the unit is what really impressed me.

http://www.puredepth.com/

These guys at puredepth make the product we are using as a display in our new product.
All I can say is its amazing. Even with material not made to be 3-d necesarily it looks FANTASTIC.
The idea is SO SIMPLE I can't believe I havent thought of it or a million other people havent.
A quick article found on their site linked below.
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/3d_on_the_desktop

Anyway the basics is you have a LCD unit with 2 panels mounted in it.
so the backlight drives through the polarizers and both panels.
The panels have a little distance between them so they are not sandwiched.

Wit the correct timing the depth between the two LCD's creates this AMAZING true to life 3-d effect.

I am trying to get more time with our proto machines to look at this display more. Maybe we have an extra one?? lol ya right.

Anyway this really excited me and wanted to share with other nerds LOL.

I think I arranged to get one of these to check out.
It might be a week before I can get it though,, GGAaAAH

I should add a little I guess.
Right now we are using 23" versions but I hear a 32" is in the works. Imagine that. Gaming and movie watching on a 3-D monitor
I can imagine a few too many beers a little vertigo and , well u know.

LOl anyway the screens look really great and vertigo doesnt seem to be an issue. The images look great though its REALLY high quality.
I just can't believe it hasn't been done sooner seeing as how simple it is.

Anyway im going to try to arrange some lab time with one. Im not sure if I can arrange any real game time but Maybe I can run some 3-D content to it via video input.
I might be able to roll a PC of my own build in and get some play time but that would long shot.

I might have seen one of these a while ago. I visited Durham university a few years ago and they showed me a Sharp laptop which had a 3D display - but it was less full 3D than parallax, like several cutouts at different depths.

Ya I think this is a different deal than the Sharp version.
I was reading about the Sharp and it really doesnt sound very impressive and its UBER expensive. Its suggested retail for 15" (1024X768) is 1449.99 I believe.

I think its mentioned in one of the above links and also has a link to an article about it as well.

I wouldn't mind getting a Sharp to compare but from the specs of these 23" and the quality I see first hand I really think this probably blows it away.

I hope puredepth doesn't sit on it too long. I mean Im sure its possible for me to get one for my office but taking one home LOl I dont think so. No time soon anyway. Maybe 18 months after we release our product I will be able to get a refurbed one from our shop as scrap.

Hopefully these will hit retail sometime soon as right now it looks like they are only available to manufacturers.

On the good news side we are teamed up with ATI and AMD on our new product so ATI should have driver support once these do hit retail.
