8600GTS vs 8800 GTS 320 MB

I wouldn't say it's worth the cost. The performance increase is not $100 worthy. Might as well get the GTX, not the gts if you want the better card.

The difference between the 8600GTS and the 8800GTS 320 is the difference between Idaho and Jupiter. It's worth more than a hundred dollars extra. You're basically getting the performance of a $400 card for $300. (At low resolution anyway.)
@UnrealAlex: How on EARTH could you tell somebody the difference in performance isn't worth it? This is somebody's REAL MONEY you're talking about...

What monitor do you have lets start with that.
If its 19" then the 320mb gts will be fine.
I have the 320mb and at 1440x900 it runs most games maxed out without hiccups.
The 640mb would not give you a HUGE fps increase, maybe 5-10 fps on higher resolutions, thats all I believe.
You can get the evga 320mb, see how it works for you, if you need something stronger then just step up to a GTX.

Take a look for yourself, it's not a complete comparison, but the FPS different is not ginormous at smaller resolutions.

But you really don't need an 8800 to play Counter Strike. You can play that with a 6600. Or maybe an x600. Or perhaps using only the power of your watch battery...

I run CS:S on an integrated Intel 950 and get 40-50 FPS at 800x600. If you're getting a card only to run CS:S, it really doesn't take a whole lot.
at 1680x1050 I can't even get a consistent 40fps with a 6800gt on crappy settings.rainless said:

forgot to say i would take the 8800gts 320mb, matter a fact as soon as i get my 7900gt ko sold im getting one. with bioshock around the corner its on my list of things to buy. then its some gaming on a 42in DLP lovin!! i cant wait!!!

i am dling css right now.. but on WoW i get like 60fps on 1280x768 .. HD but one of mem sticks is bad so in Shattarah i get like hiccups.. i think 1g more then 2gs ram total dual chan will stop the hiccups right guys?Evilsizer said:
