Greetings!

The folks at F-Secure have discovered that software bundled with Sony's MicroVault USB thumb drives installs a driver intended to conceal files in the host system's Windows directory. Said directory reportedly becomes invisible to the Windows API and some anti-virus software, which could potentially allow malware to exploit it in order to avoid detection.

Sony doesnt learn?

The article doesn't go into how it's hidden, though. More info would be nice.

Sony is in soooo much trouble.. hopefully they have enough money to pay off everyone who sues them. Its against federal law and I hope sony pays for what they have done.

I dunno if its a good thing, or a bad thing that I didnt get that ultra tiny MicroVault drive...

i've learn to figure out .... sony is garbage, their business practices are sub par (for all those EQ players, you should know constant breaking things in planes of power so people could not progress), proprietary hardware and software (even worse on MP3 players)

i'm glad they got caught, i just feel bad for the random joe six pack that buys a thumb drive and gets exploited due to that rootkit.

I am not sure that it is a rootkit.... and it might not be that exploitable.

But I sure as well don't want hidden spots in MY hard drive.
