8600GTSx2 SLI or 8800GTS

Would it be a waste to buy two 8600GTS and run 'em in SLI or just buy one 8800GTS? I will not be buying anything else till maybe May next year so I want to get replacement for my 7900GTX

my thought is that SLI is pointless unless buying 2 high end cards (GTX / GTS 640) as usually the next card up can beat the previous one when in SLI, or barely or they tie.

8800gts for sure.

So buy the 8800GTS and then later on buy the other for SLI. Do not buy the 8600gts and run SLI now?

I have 2 7600 GT OC's(iirc) in SLI on my main rig. I have no complaints with MOST games that I play BUT it doesnt hold up to many of the heavy graphics games. Next update is going to be an 8800 in some form.

Get the GTS.
Whether you want to SLI that or not depends on when you plan on the next upgrade.

Midrange SLIing is a crapshoot on timing. Almost always better to get the single better card.

K thanks for the help guys. I will go ahead and get the 8800GTS 640 and keep my options open from there.
