therm throttling question

i have a 3.0 prescott on the socket 478. in my BIOS options i see a therm throttling setting. 25%, 50%, and 75%. what would changing this setting do. does it have to do with the load on the cpu or what? thanks in advance. have a good one!

Thermal throttling depends on the temperature afaik it doesn't decrease voltage at least in prescotts so far from the best solution to the problem.

right i knew that. by load i meant how hot the cpu would get from working to hard. so what do the %'s mean (ex like if the cpu is at 50% usage, it starts the therm throttle)? just wondering what i can do so my cpu runs closer to the actual clock. thanks. have a good one!

No, the CPU will not throttle before it has reached a certain temperature, with normal cooling it should never get to that point even with 100% continuous load. I guess this setting specifies how much it should throttle down IF overheating occurs, and in any case it will not have any impact on performance.
