Penryn and setup

OK, there are two things happening in November.
1. Penryn will have one extreme series release confirmed by Intel.
2. Nvidia will be releasing G92. (this is a rumor, nothing has been confirmed)

My questions: I plan on owning both of these items within the release week.

What motherboard do we use for Penryn, DDR3, and the G92 PCI-E 2.0. Because there are currently no PCI-express 2.0 mobos available. What options do we have?

This should help. :) Circa 2010

well X38/X48 is suppose to be out soon. i would go with a X38/ddr3 setup with penryn/G92. NV gave word some time ago that the mid range cards could see a boost up 25% on PCIE 2.0. where higher end cards would see a smaller increase around 5-10%.

I might not have my facts straight, but from what I've heard so far, that first "Penryn" will be a socket 771 server processor. The desktop socket 775 won't be available until maybe right after the first of the year.

I've been watching the development of the upcoming Abit IX38 series motherboard. The DDR3 version will be the IX38 Max and the DDR2 version is called the IX38 QuadGT. They should be in the retail channels next month. I'm sure Asus will have a capable X38 chipset version available soon too.

I know nothing about the rumored G92, but I'd like to learn more about it. I'm very interested.

From what I can tell it isn't much more than a rumor at this point, no solid evidence. nVidia actually denied the Nov 12, 2007 date.

This is true for mainstream, however the QX (Extreme Quad) is scheduled for November.

i read somewhere that all the quads (Q9***) and duals (E8***) will work with a p35 chipset so i its safe to assume that they are not socket 771.
