it'll last you as long as it'll take for the enthusiast itch to consume you. For most of us, that means we'll upgrade at least once a year regardless of what we are upgrading.

same here, but i still upgrade at least once a year. This year's upgrade was E2140, p35-s3l and the 2 x 1 ocz ram. Although i may end up getting a nice lil penryn quad when it comes out.

It should be fine for at least a year. Minimum. Think about how many people are still using x800's and 7900's.

I'd say it should last 2 years.

for what its worth, the G92 series (8800 series replacements) will be out mid-november. I think once directx 10 games start pumping out, you may be surprised at how quick you may want a new card. still, the 8800 gts is a good card, and at 1280x1024 you definitely have plenty of life yet out of her.

TBH it's really an impossible question to answer.

We don't know what you consider "adequate" performance, we don't know what games will be coming out or what they will look like on that card.

Historically, if you buy the top of the line video card it will last about 2-3 years before it becomes "ok" for most stuff. Of course, this depends on what resolution you play games in, what types of games, and the ability of the game itself to allow you to adjust things for the best performance / quality.

Yea and the G92 is dead. They have renamed it and it will be the 8800GT. There will be 256MB version (~180) and 512MB verision (~220). Go check it out in the nVidia section. It isn't an 8800 GTX killer. I think it will be a good buy. I don't see them making any more major advancements for another year. I persume they will have another line next fall for the xmas season.

hmmm i typicaly play games at full settings with a res of 1800x1440 or something close to that... I see these cards not being useless for another 2~3 years. As the games get better I'll start lowering my settings and lowering the res untill I can't handle it anymore. Just like any card it'll have a decent life span as long as you don't need the TOP graphics next year.
