Question Debian 4 ...module for HDD?

hi'
I was trying to install the latest official debian release, everything went ok, when the installer told me that a module for my hdd was needed, with a long list .... tried most of them ...

could not go through it install cancelled ...

all my internal hdd are SATAII, on ICHR9 ...
may be a module for this?

any help someone?
much appreciated

i686

ps; wanted to have an hdd linux only with other distros such as Slackware and Suse in vmware ...
Mandriva spring 2007.1 was installed in 35mn, without a problem ... why Debian can't do the same?

What do you mean here... Are you installing Debian to VMWare using a physical disk? And if you are, what kind of VMWare, Workstation or ESX server or what? If Workstation, what host OS are you using?

I think he's having issues with the sata2's.

Try debian mirrors

Sounds like, but if installing to VMware then the ICH and Sata2 doesnt matter even when using physical disk, they hypervisor will use its own virtual controller driver. And, ICH in all versions is the most compatible and widely supported Sata controller ever, shouldnt make problems in Debian or any other distro, thats why i thought maybe its a VMWare problem but its not clear if OP is intalling to VMWare or not.

Anyway, if in VMWare, try to use SCSI and choose LSILogic as controller.

hi'
thanks for the link ihrsetrdr

in fact, sataII and ichr9 bring up a problem I never seen before
so, I guess that in the recognition of the hdd's, the kernel mix up and so see no hdd and ask for a module, which is normal

by now I download the 4rc1, and will try again

thanks for help

no vmware, each box has it's own partition and boot from bot manager on XP, even vista has the same treatment

ps; about vmware, if so, would be on a linux partition to test some other distro, but a boot manager is better, test in real
