http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/10...rce_8800_gts/1

I think the 8800GT to act as a filler card between the 8600GTS and the 8800GTS is a great idea. The gap performance wise was so big it is about time Nvidia released something like this!
The card looks really slick too.

like i have said before i REALLY hope the new 8800gts 640's just have an nvidia modded bios, thus allowing us original 8800gts 640 users to pop the new bios on our cards... and walla 16 extra sp's!

The 8800GT has 112 SP's? I doubt that it will to be honest.

doesnt matter what me or you think.
http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/GeFo...5GHz/5329.html

I dont see them making a drastically different core for 1 gpu.
also if the 96 SP parts are going KAPUT which is also being rumored the 320 is getting dropped and the 640 is going to 112 that means all the faulty 128 SP gtx cores are going to 112 for the 640 and the gt card. Its the easiest thing for them to do and will maximize their profit.

they bash it because its performance is weak compared to 7900/1900 series and at this point is the next card down from a 8800gts 320

It might be weak but it still beats them + has dx10 support . And @ 120$ its a pretty good deal
And most places dont even sell 7900's any more just the 8500 and 8600's

i dont think it beats a 7900gs in gaming and its cheaper.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/426/1/

not a bad review here, i think it gets a bad rap cuz its not really faster than the previous gen top cards and there's a huge gap between it and the 320 gts

Interesting, guess they're riding on the memory bus width to provide the difference in performance.

well the mem bus width is staying the same from what i read. wouldnt they be then banking on the higher mem speed? either way if the width stays the same the card still gains with the higher stream count.

Sorry I was talking about the performance difference between the 8800GT and the new 8800GTS - the 8800GT is supposed to have a 256bit bus as opposed to the GTS' 320bit. Which if they have the same number of SPs could explain the performance difference between the two cards. More so than a few hundred Mhz difference in memory speeds imo

hmm i thought i read the 8800GT has 320bit making it the new 8800gts 640mb card... interesting none the less, would make more sense though to have the 8800GT with 96 on a 256bit mem width.

Yeh it is odd, but every bit of news I've read on the 8800GT says that it'll be offered in 2 flavours, a 256MB and 512MB version, both with a 256bit bus.
