X38 - Abit IX38 QuadGT or Asus Maximus Formula SE

Surfs up on Asus Maximus Formula SE X38
but
Abit IX38 QuadGT
is due out next week.

Last 2 boards have been Asus, commando , which is also ROG (5/10) & p5k dlxe (9/10) I do feel that quality & support are a bit of a lottery with asus, but as usual, the board looks good.

I'm unsure which to get, has anyone else got plans ideas, or are you holding out till penryn & ddr3

cheers

Unless you want crossfire or DDR3 why go from a p35 to an x38. Unless they happen to clock better but so far this has not been the case.

with p35 and x38 it goes back to the 965 vs 975x chipsets... clock for clock 975x was faster/better cause of the tighter chipset timings. the down side to that though was the 975x wasnt ocing to the high levels of 965.

my vote is for the abit board... abit's back in the top 3 imo, esp since when they did CES. with fugger and one other gent, abit provide a large tank with LN2 and first run bios. they had the ip35-pro's stable and oced to if i recall some 5ghz with out issues. they had a few freeze ups on some days, one day though fugger stated the board/cpu was running for about 8hrs striaght with no problems.

why go from a p35 to an x38
basically because i've lost a bit of faith in my p5k. So if i'm swapping mobos i'd rather go x38, rather than another p35.

detailed reason:lol :-:
I ended rmaing a 2nd set of crucial 8500 last weekend , they had lasted since july, max current they had 2.25v (stock=2.2v) has plenty of active cooling. The new stuff will be my 4th set of ram on this board. Now i know Micron D9 can be a bit prone to failure but, i can't help having a nagging doubt that the mobo might be making a contribution.

yep the decent boards they've had lately has put them back on my radar. I just wish they launched as early as asus & gigabyte:lol:

Unfortunately they aren't as big a customer of Intel as Asus, Gigabyte & MSI so don't get dibs on the first supplies of chipsets.

Yep good point. Mind it doesn't say much for dfio 965, p35 they've been about 3 months after the rest:lol:

For me personally after having alot of 965 mobos ABits quad gt has been the best for me and if I went p35 it would have been an abit. If I had to buy right away I would probably go with abit right now. Or wait and see if there's any issues compared to the asus.

all X38s have an IHS on the nb though, they come from Intel like that ...

Personally, I don't see how anyone can say that the Maximus is a better made mobo than the QuadGT unless he has seen retail samples of both & as yet afaik there aren't any QuadGTs in retail?
