The next revision of the 360 won't be hitting shelves till August 08 the only changes will be a 65nm GPU and smaller memory chips which as we all know well cut costs and heat issues. Still the current 360 (Zepher/Falcon since thats the revision names) have the new motherboard which was in the Elite and a smaller 65nm CPU.

What they want to add is the quiter Benq DVD-ROM drives as a perminant thing too like before X-mas maybe. A few more coins and I will be trading my current console which was made in October 06 in for a newer model DVD-Rom does that grinding noise a lot more as of late & luckly bought a memory card for game saves.

I've got the BenQ and I can say that the notion that it is quieter than the Hitachi drive from my old one is pure rubbish. In fact I think the machine is overall louder because the fans do output more air from the back of the unit now.

Disagree 1000000x. Maybe you got a bad drive, but I can almost never hear my DVD drive spinning. I have a launch Elite with the Benq drive, and it's MUCH quieter than my first system that was purchased back in July of '06.

I better not have.... it's not that I can hear the drive so much as the fans blowing out the back are so loud that they drive could be silent or loud and I'd never know the difference.

Supposedly the newer models are made with two different types of fans; some are louder, some are quieter. I have the quiet one
