dual boot?

ive looked around but i just cant find a simple and straight answer for a simple and straight question!

if i want to have 2 different OS's on 2 different hard drives is it just as simple as installing the 2 OS's and then choosing upon boot via F2 (or whatever the popup menu is!) which one i want to use or do i need some sort or program?

sorry for being a noob! i just cant help it!

Yes, if you install an OS and bootloader on each HDD (default setting ) then yes, you can just select which drive you want in the BIOS or after POST

Don't worry about the questions, we all didn't know this at some point

yes, windows overwrites the previous bootloader whenever you install windows with it's bootloader from the CD. I have never done this with two windows hard drives, but from reading thideras' post, if you install both OS's normally onto different hard drives, when you boot, whichever hard drive is first to boot should recognize the other as well and give you the option to choose which OS.

This may or may not need to be done in addition, but if you run "msconfig", there is a button in the BOOT.INI tab to check all boot paths, and that may find the second drive's boot path if it does not find it automatically.

just don't forget to set the vista partition active if you install on different hdd
otherway you'll run into problems ... ntldr missing etc ...

on the same hdd, it doesn't matter, install it booting from cdrom and reboot for having the dual boot, choice between vista and old windows(XP)
