first off i'm going to call the 1GB GDDR4 2900XT a XTX.
I've seen the XTX card for £300 and I've seen a reference gtx for £300 also. so in terms of price they are on par, although the gtx is usually more. I'm not buying wither yet, waiting for 8800gt and 7950, but which is better?

I've read conflicting things. couldn't really find an answer, virtually nothing on the XTX, like it doesn't exist.
http://techreport.com/articles.x/12956/6 uses the same res and makes the XTX look naff.

whereas acording to this the gtx in sli is alot worse than the XTX in sli. especailly in really high res.

aparently because in dx10 on vista its better. personally i'm not planning on using SLi.

which is best?!

The 8800GTX is better than the 2900XT. I think the 2900XTs might win a couple of benchmarks, but in actually gameplay the 8800 series takes the cake. Especially with AA/AF enabled.

If you can grab a 2900Pro it is just a downclocked XT. Great bang for the buck.

the 2900xt is at best a 640 comparison, the 1gb V 512 has very little difference and only at high res.

what you should be looking at is the 2900pro which is a 2900xt with slower clocks. The board itself, memory and the core are identical to the XT just clocked slower out of the box.
Everyone that has bought the 512 pro has hit well over xt speeds with ease.
If you can grab one for 275 its the best bang for the buck there is and is a better buy than a gts 640 at 350 even the 640 gts is a little faster with AA. A gtx however stand in a league of its own above all other cards for now.
