7900 GS Freezing in Certain Games on My New Rig

Hi guys,

Just a precursor, my current rig is not intended for overclocking, I will be upgrading my graphics card and mobo, next year. However, in the meantime I am just looking for some general assistance from you guys because you are always so helpful. I really appreciate any help you can offer.

I just built a new rig, the specs are as follows:
AMD 6000+
GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 Mobo
2gbs of 6400 Memory from Gskill
320GB Western Digital SATA 3 HD
PNY 7900 GS
450 Watt PSU with good 12v rail

I am having some inconsistencies with the 7900GS artifacting and instantly locking up in certain games. So far it is really prevalent in two games, the Hellgate London Beta (yes I know its a beta), and Counter Strike Source (which should have no problems at all).

In the past I have only seen a couple things cause this, a problematic GPU or bad memory, or system overheating. The system is staying relatively cool, around 50c, and I ran the memory through memtest86 for 8hrs (overkill I know) with no errors found... so this leads me to believe the problem is directly related with the GPU as the lock ups only occur within games. I've left Prime95 running for over a day without and lockups or freezes. The second thing that indicates the GPU is the artifacting that always occur a split second before the lock up.

I am just curious if any of you guys are familiar with the board, or the card and have any suggestions or settings to tweak to make this card work. The card is running at about 123F stock, which makes me a little worried. Is there anyway I can force the card fan to run faster? I couldn't find any options in nTune to tweak this.

I am open to any suggestions, and am starting to get a little worried about this card. Thanks in advance guys.

If you had a spare video card, I would swap that in and see if problems occur.

Otherwise, I would just run some program that stresses video for a long period of time to check stability(you could also try downclocking it). I still haven't found a program like memtest for video card mem.

Btw, 123 F is fine; 50C is nothing to worry about.

Your temps are fine.

Try newer Beta drivers.
