Hi -first time on forum,

I have been trying to find the best systerm that i can buy for around £400. i awlready have a case , mouse monitor keyboard, so only need the components for inside the case.

This is my initail attempt:

Akasa System Exhaust Blower (£7.02)

OcUK Huntkey 550W PSU (£41.11)

OcUK ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) – Retail (£78.71)

Samsung SH-S203NBEBN 20x20 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) – OEM (£22.31)

Gigabyte GA-P35-S3 Intel P35 ICH9 Storage DDR2 Socket 775 PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£65.80)

Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.00GHz (800FSB) – Retail (£78.71)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (£37.59)

Samsung SpinPoint T 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD401LJ) (£54.04)

Also I have heard that the new batch of e4400 dont overclock very well, does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks in advance.

can you supply product links to where you're buying from? that helps a lot sometimes.

i'm not familiar with the psu. everything else looks capable enough though.

the specs on the board look good enough. p35 + ich9 =. if you don't need matrix raid, you can maybe find a cheaper one depending on what you're paying.

if you need to save a little money, you could go to a e2180 of the same speed. it has 1M L2 cache compared to 2M on the e4400, it's an option though.

I don't know how flexible your budget is but here's what i came up with......

320GB Western Digital Caviar SATA II 300 7200rpm 16MB cache Hard Disk Drive oem (KS) (HAR320WESSA272) £39.40

Trust PowerMaster 520W PSU Low Noise Big Fan PW-5550 (PSUTRUPW5550)
£20.70

XFX GeForce 8600 GT 512MB DDR2 PCI-E DVI 540Mhz (VIDXFX8600GT512)
£67.60

Asus E616A3T SATA DVD-ROM Retail with black & beige bezels (DVDASU16XSAT)
£12.99

Asus Motherboard P5KPL G31 LGA775 LGA775 Core2 Quad / Extreme / Core2 Duo 1333FSB ATX (MOTASUP5KPL)
£43.95

Intel CPU Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 95W Energy Efficient 2.4GHz SLACR G0 Stepping (3yr Manufacturer's Warranty) (CPUIP4775Q660EE)
£139.99

OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1024) Value Pro DDR2 PC4200 533Mhz Dual Channel Memory With Copper Heatspreader (MEMOCZVRK204E42)
£33.40

Thermalright Ultra-120 CPU Heatpipe Heatsink AMD socket 754,940,939 Intel LGA775 (FANTHRULT120)
£27.15

all in thats £452.59

i'd get a better PSU.

e2140
giga ds3l
2 x 1 geil ram (unless you can find some crucials for cheap.)
x1950pro
psu... silverstone 500watt, antec trio power, antec earthwatts, corsair hx/vx, thermaltake, something with a known name is better. Bad things happen with bad psus.

don't trust every thermaltake. the low end units aren't well built. toughpowers are good i think. jonnyguru.com is your friend.
