Need some new RAM.

Hi, im currently running 2x1GB of Crucial 10th Anniversary RAM. I am looking to upgrade to 4GB. What should I do? Sell this RAM and get 2x2GB sticks? If so, which ones should I get. I want sticks that overclock a lot, so im looking for good PC6400 sticks.

Thanks

Tiger direct has crucial ballistics pc6400 tracers for 59$ plus a 20$ rebate. 80 bucks for 2 gig of tracer aint bad. I just got a set and im running them with my pc8500 tracers in my p5k premium with my q6600 go and its running at 3.97 and they are keeping up with no ifs ands or butts. Better hurry though the deal ends tommorrow. Good luck.

I am thinking of selling these sticks and getting 4x1GB of Crucial Ballistixs. I would go for that deal, but I live in the U.K.

Do you think that its worth getting 4GB of PC2-8500 RAM, and overclock that? I don't really mind about the price. I could just get the 6400s, and clock them to the 8500 speed. But wont the 8500s clock higher? Or are all the rams the same and only clocked differently with different timings? Like can the 6400s and the 8500s reach the same speeds with the same timings? Or will the 8500s always clock higher?

all of the ballistix run the same ics(micron d9gmh)just binned higher respectively.i would just get a set of either the 667 or 800,whichever is cheapest.you should have no problem at all hitting 1066 with either.what do your annis top out at with 2.2v?<---that would be the deciding factor for me.if they oc like most annis i would hang on to them.
youd have no problem at all selling those annis tbh.so if youd rather go for the 8500s thats not a bad idea at all.the 8500s are by far the most consistant ocers you can find.

But if they are the same, wouldnt it bet better to just get some 5300s?

So at crucial, do they just produce a load of the same chips, then they clock some at 8500, which higher timings. And then they use the same chips and clock them to 5300 and have lower timings?

it wont matter tbh.the 6400s are actually cheaper than the 5300s here in the states so thats why i mentioned those.
if you check the 6400/8500s epp ratings with cpu-z they are also programed to run 3-3-3-9@667 and 4-4-4-12@800.they are just programed for higher speced stock speeds than the 5300s.

yep, essentially thats what they do.nearly all ballistix will do 1066 out of the box with 2.2v.

I might aswell get the 6400s then. But will the 8500s reach a higher frequency than the 6400s when they are maxed out?

my 5300s run 3-3-3-12 2.2v stock, with 2.25 they are doing 1066 4-4-4-10. i thought the 10th anni. were the same as these sticks? if thats true, then id just grab another set and run em till they drop. what do yours max at with 2.25v?

edit: just saw in your sig..

Not too sure what voltage I was running them at, I think it was 2.2v.

So what is the difference between different ram? Are they using the exact same chips just clocked at different speeds?

Yeah, pretty much. Although those 10th anniversary tend to clock better than the regular batches of Ballistix/Tracer.

So if i was to get 6400s or 8500s, would they clock to the same speed and the same timings? The 8500s wouldnt clock higher?
