I lied...why is this in the folding section though?

I didn't laugh... although there are more effective ways to get the thing off... like a blowtorch and PB blaster, and using a breaker bar, and backing the car up to loosen the bolt (as its on the right side).

Granted if I had spent two weeks trying to fix a car that isnt worth more than $2k I might start thinking illogically as well.

Nope, I'm not... When have you ever seen a lincoln continental worth spending two weeks trying to fix?

The man, from South Kitsap, 10 miles (16km) southwest of Seattle, had been repairing his Lincoln Continental for two weeks, according to the police, and had removed all but one of the nuts on the right rear wheel.

Because I knew you needed the laugh - admit it. :)

That, and I couldn't find a section for humor. :D

uh, ok. You're right. That does look like a lincoln in the picture.

We folders are our own sub community.

Don't think I could have said it any better myself Ned.

I wonder if this guy is the type that would try to sue the tire shop that worked on it last for medical bills since they overtightened the lug nut? Then again, I have about the same amount of patience for anything labeled Ford too. I have thought of Ford as that other four letter word starting with F after my second car. After owning it for about 6 months I got so tired of it, I ended up taking it to the wrecking yard hoping to see it get smashed. The Escort GT was a terrible car.

I think this fits much better in GD and maybe we should keep folding @ home related topics in the folding section?

That's an interesting discussion. I can only speak from my experiences with another team.

A new guy joined this other team, and started posting a lot of humorous and general "fun* stuff on that teams folding forum.

The team was not doing well, having just been passed up, but still in the top 10.

Through many such posts, this exceptional person had many folders surfing over just to see his next posts, the funny replies to them, etc.

There were some complaints that he was "increasing the noise factor", and "off topic" and such, as was just mentioned here.

I'm suggesting that we might also benefit by moving from a strict "folding topics only" format, to a more relaxed and fun "community" type of focus on our forum.

Personally, I've never been to the GD forum, and wouldn't know if humor was OK or not there. Also, I wouldn't probably know anyone there.

I believe that when people join us, (as our newest teammate just stated), they join primarily because of the feeling of camaraderie and support for a good cause.

If they leave the team, it's because the camaraderie has not been sufficient for their needs.** Clearly the cause of folding is as good as ever.

This is an important consideration for our team's recruitment and retention. I don't want to suggest that we'll do as well as that other team, but I believe we can do better - maybe quite a bit better, by adding more community, humorous, and fun aspects to our folding forum.

I don't want to take away from the strengths of our team, or ruffle feathers either. This is just a suggestion.

What are your thoughts?

**Clearly, we won't meet everyone's needs, but we could surpass many folder's expectations.

FORD = Found On Road Dead :D

Their trucks are not that bad, though.

But, I would like to have a Mustang. Convertable.

I was replacing a water pump on a mustang when I was in college. Got all the way to the water pump, and everything turned to metric on me. Had to stop and go buy a set of metric wrenches. (Metric was not so common back then.) Why, oh, why mix metric and american in the same vehicle?

Nah. It's a lot more fun when we get to be our own little community.

We've always (as long as I've noticed - LeeLegends Mustang post being the exception) been given some latiutde in this forum, for which I am grateful.

I've always assumed it is because the folding team brings a lot of recognition for OverClockers.com.

Besides, if push comes to shove, I can make any topic folding related, some how. :D:D:D

I agree that if we are all "suit and tie" in here it can get dull. sometimes there just isn't much going on in the folding world. With a group as close as I feel this one is I don't see any reason not to allow this sort of general chatter between friends. Granted there are limits to that, but I feel we are all adult enough to handle ourselves accordingly.

As for the OP, WTH was that guy thinking? Did some part of him think he was just going to cleanly blast the lug nut and stud off?

Threads are know to get slightly off track once in a while. I don't think they are ever intentionally hijacked, though. As someone said not long ago, "Spam is such a strong word."

whether or not this is in the right section is not something Im going to get involved in but I will say that is pretty funny. What makes it even more humorous is the guy wasnt even drunk So he is dumb as a post even sober! haha yay for darwinism.
