2600XT faster than 8600GT?

I just bought a 2600XT with GGDR3 RAM and I already have a 8600GT, is the 2600XT faster?

It really depends on which 2600XT, they vary greatly in performance, between the 8600GT and GTS, chances are it does beat the GT by a bit.

The X1950PRO is still a better performer and should cost the same price, and the HD3850 is a pretty big leap up for only $60 more.

shoulda went with the 3850.

The diff between 2600XT/8600GT is pretty minimal.

It has shader model 3.0 while the 2600XT has 4.0 and GGDR3 512MB and other stuff.

Which means jack-**** when it gets outperformed.

And there is no way you'd ever get to use DX10 at a reasonable framerate with the 2600XT anyway, so the fact that it supports DX10 (SM 4.0) is meaningless (as well as the fact that DX10 is barely used atm (give it another year or so) and comes with a performance drop courtsy of Vista).

The midrange Nvidas and ATI of this generation really underperform compared to last-gen's top end (usually new generation midrange = last generation top). Unless you have a pressing need for some of the features (not DX10; but things like HDMI ports, onboard media decoding, etc) x1950 > 2600xt

Period.
