Do a verify on your files (right click on the game<Verify Files).

If it is in the EXACT same spot everything, it is the game.

...by doing the verify.

If that fails, do a "Delete Local Content" by right clicking on the game. You will have to redownload it.

Yah, listen to thideras. If that doesn't solve it.. Are you OC'd? Sounds like a memory address error.

I don't think your overclock is the problem. It is worth a try though.

If all else fails, just delete local content and re-download.

If I remember correctly, HL2:EP2 also uses the HL2 install.

Do verifies on all your games.

Personally, I'd nuke the entire steam install.

Ok, i went and removed all the local files for all of my games, then i went to the control panel and uninstalled Steam. I didnt however go into my program files and delete the vavle folder. I kept that. Right after than i loaded up the orange box dvd and installed steam along with HL2, ep1 and ep2. Right now im installing those. Im going to give it another shot when its done and ill come back and share my results.

This has nothing to do with the memory error right? I did everything you did and I still can't run the game. Any Suggestions?

Maybe you already tried this, but I didn't see it posted here, but is your box 100% up-to-date? Latest drivers, latest MS updates, latest patches for Ep2 etc?

I was having problems running the game in full screen until I downloaded new Omega drivers for my Radeon.

I'm having the exact same problem with the crash at the exact same location: it occurs after you have outran the antlion guardian, drop through a hole and you begin to start following railroad tracks. For me I don't get an error message, the game just shuts down.

I also got this as part of the Orange Box. I just finished Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One with absolutely no problems. It's only with the Episode Two where it's ever crashed during a game. I'm also using a brand new computer so I'm almost certain the problem is with the game.

I tried doing what you said and faced away, sidestepped leftwards without looking ahead and crouching but that didn't seem to stop the crash. I just deleted the local content of the game through Steam, and am in the process of re-downloading it. I didn't un-install Steam like you did though. After it finishes re-installing, I'm wondering how it's possible to get to the exact same location again without playing all over again from the beginning? Is it possible?

I just want to update what happened. Deleting the files, re-downloading, and re-installing the game had no effect - the exact same crash occurred at the exact same spot.

I tried other fixes like crouching, looking down, and strafing left which appeared to have worked for many other people - this still didn't work for me.

However, here is the easiest fix that indeed worked for me! Forget about crouching and looking down. Simply turn right to face the pipes on the wall and remain standing - and then strafe left. Keep your eyes on the pipe as you strafe left until you pass the web. This got me past. (Remember before you do all this to shoot the web first with your shotgun).

Here buddy read this forum, it gives more details on the crouching solution. It should work for you since it worked for pretty much everybody.

Hey thanks for the fix, it worked like a charm. I also tried to delete all the local content and re-installed, re-played through ch1 and most of ch2 and then it didn't work. I was getting frustrated until I came here and read the solution. If anyone else is having this problem just do the crouching and looking to the right, but sometimes it takes multiple trys it took me twice to get it right, it has something to do with the rendering in that area so it works better the more fixed your view is on the wall.

The fix that I used is very similar to the crouching solution, both involves strafing left. The only difference is that instead of crouch, I stood and instead of looking down, I looked directly ahead at the pipes. Anyway, I just finished the game just now. I don't want to spoil it but I couldn't believe how emotional I got at the very end - I did a HL2, HL2Ep1, and HL2Ep2 marathon all week so I guess the characters got to me. The Episode 2 climax battle was much more difficult than HL2 and HL2Ep1.

For the record, here are 3 more points at which the game crashed and the fixes which I used:

1) The one we just mentioned in this forum thread (walking toward the mine after outrunning the antlion guardian).

2) In the beginning of the ‘Our Mutual Fiend’ chapter: As soon as you get off the car with Alyx to meet other resistance fighters you go inside the White Forest silo base where there is an open room where there is a group of other resistance fighters sitting and having a conversation. If you walk up to the people, it crashes. Good thing is that you don’t have to walk up to the people to finish the game (I guess you can make the claim that you're not an eavesdropper). So to fix, simply do not walk up to the group of people talking (I didn't try crouching and strafing although that would probably work too, I just avoided going to them and it worked. I was even able to check out other areas of this room - I checked out every area of the room except the people sitting and talking).

3) In the middle of the ‘Our Mutual Fiend’ chapter: You’re inside the base and you are instructed to go to the silo. There is a scene where you are about to fight 3 hunters. Just before you go to the area where the hunters are, you have to go through a corridor similar to the mine sequence and this is where it crashes, very similar to the #1 crash above. To fix, simply turn your back on the hunters by facing the wall to your left and look at nothing but the wall as you strafe right (again very similar to the #1 case). You’ll probably get hit a few times but most likely will be minor damage. After you pass this one area in the corridor everything will be ok again and you can face the hunters and defeat them.

4) Between the middle and end of the ‘Our Mutual Fiend’ chapter just before the climactic end battle: One of your missions was to close the silo door of the base. After much fighting with the Combine you finally accomplish this and it takes place on the highest platform of the silo. After the silo door closes, Alyx comes up to greet and congratulate you with another scientist. As you go to her, the game crashes. The fix is to walk towards her backwards – do not look at her as you go to her (it feels kind of weird because she’s congratulating you and talking to you as you’re turning your back to her) .

I honestly think Valve released this game too soon. It feels more like a beta version. Anyway, I am almost certain that other people will also experience at least one or more of these crashes and I hope what I mentioned here helps.

Hmmm, myne only crashed at the antlion place and the White forest base where they group of guys were talking. But anyhow i also did a HL2 episode marathon, ep1 and then ep2. They were great, especually ep2. I also got really emotional at the very end. SPOILER WARNING: I just came so suddenly, like out of nowhere. I couldnt bilieve what happend. I just hope we get to kill advisors in ep3.

I finished Ep.2 week ago and I didn´t have any problems. I played throught the whole game at least for three times and some chapters like Riding Shotgun and Our Mutual Friend more than five times. I never had any problem. But now, unreasonably, the game falls every time I start it. After starting the game, I have something about thirty seconds, before it falls back to Windows with that error message, no matter if I am in Riding Shotgun, This Vortal Coil or even in main menu. Any ideas? I´m really distressed, because it´s one of the best games I played.
Any ideas how to fix it? :-(

Have you tried deleting the local content on your steam desctop and then reinstalling the game? It should work seeing as how your issue isnt related to the terminating error messge we were getting. Try doing that and also posting your system specs my help us help you better. Good luck
