Fastest harddrives for raid 0?

I plan on buying a new rig in a few days and I want to run 2 drives in raid 0 just like I am now. Is it ok to just keep my 2x 74gig raptors or are there alot better options now?

It depends on what you've budgeted for your new build. I would imagine that those two raptors would do just fine. What will you be doing with your new system and is heat and noise a concern for you?

If you have time to rob a bank:

The Fastest SATA Drives in Raid 0 would be:
Mtron Mobi's for $399 each @ neostore.com
170 MB/s sustained read , 140 MB/s sustained write, .1 ms access time.

or Mtron Pro which is an exorbiant price.

lol because 'time' IS the only thing preventing most of us from robbing banks

just to note for those that don't know ... those SSD's are slick, but they are only 32GB. i can't wait for the SSD market to mature

what's the consensus on the fastest RAID 0 setup for drives under $200 each?

well those or the seagate 250gig 410AS models but those are 69.99 each and offer killer performance on a intel matrix raid setup.

Huh? Those Seagates have already proven to be average performers at best and what does Matrix RAID do to Seagates that it can't do to any other drive? Seagates and Matrix RAID..............the big perfermance myth combo.

Sorry, I know what the synthetic benchmarks are. What do synthetic benchmarks prove about the drive's performance with real applications such as the link I provided? Is there one test done with a Matrix RAID "fast slice"(I almost gag typing that) against a standard RAID array in any type of real world application?

Based on HD Tach? Jesus, that's like picking which car is gonna win a drag race based on horsepower specs. Well good luck with that logic and I sure as hell wouldn't be advising people with it.

i post up something that is alot cheaper and gets pretty damn good performance in a raid 0. just cause they are not raptors doesnt mean to dismiss them.... thats the only point im tring to make.... excuse me for making a suggestion... ill make sure not to help anyone from now on.....

*edit* forget i even posted in this thread...

as you basiclly calling any bench done by any member here crap.. since alot of benches we use are synthetic, good job!

can you assume the 250GB versions are average because the 1TB version was in that benchmark? i'm not arguing, just asking

hey, let's not fight over differences in recommendations here. it's helpful to get all opinions it's just not worth arguing over them. it's not like the Dolphins are a bad football team, they just haven't won a game yet this year.. ok, bad analogy lol

They use the same platters so, yes, the performance would be about identical. Sorry about attacking someone's recommendation, but using false adjectives like "killer peformance" and saying the drive is even better in a Matrix array, when EVERY drive "benefits" from being used in it, is wrong.
