I'm looking to make the move to DX10, my current x1550 getting old.
I'd like a recommendation on a new graphics card with DX10 support.
I was thinking maybe the 8600GT, or the 2600XT, maybe X1950? I'm really not sure what would be best for me.
Thanks

1) What are your system specifications? Give us full specs:

CPU = X2 4400+ Brisbane
Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H
PCI-E / AGP = PCI-E
RAM = 4gb DDR2 667Mhz
PSU =Thermaltake 430w
Current Video Card =x1550 256mb

2) What is your budget?
~$150

3) For how long are you planning to have this new card?
8-12 months?

4) What will the new Video Card be used for?
Mixed = Some gaming but not much, a card that will let me play at least at medium/high settings.

5) If Gaming, please tells us the games you're planning to play. Please list as many as you'd love to play.
CS Source (I know DX10 wont make a difference)
Maybe Team Fortress 2
COD-4

stretch the budget another ~50 bucks and get a hd3850 or a 8800GT 256mb.

$50 ?? A 8600GT can be had for about $100, the 8800gt or 3850 are over $225 last I checked hehe. So thats an extra $125 IF you can actually find one selling that cheap which at the moment can be a pain :)

I would however say get a 8800 series or 3800 series card if your finances allow it if not go for a 8600GTS which can be had for $135ish i think.

Actually they are quite a bit cheaper.

Here are my two picks.

3850, $170

8600 GTS, $120

There is almost no point in getting a DX10 card unless you are willing to pay for the extra horsepower. I'd stray away from the 8600/2600 series cards if you are a gamer. Save some dough and get an 8800 series or 38xx series card if you can.

If you don't feel like saving that much money get a solid DX9 card (x1950xt and 79xx series come to mind). They'll perform better in games than the 8600/2600 series but they don't have DX10 support.

I'd personally get the 3850 (see if you can snag the one with 512mb of memory). Its just a little bit more than you budget and is a great value card.

Yea, at the under $150 price range just grab a x1950pro. It is DX9, but better than any DX10 card under $150. I didn't mention that cause he stated a DX10 card, but you should look there if you want a bargin.
