Do drivers affect how well your card overclocks?

This blows my mind. Does the driver you have installed affect how well, or HOW BAD your card will overclock? I've noticed something along the lines of this a while back but since then I haven't needed a large overclock. My card is stock 500/400, I can get the RAM to 500 (For DDR2 its impressive, which is fine by me), but my core can barely be stable at 525? I've seen people with the same setups hit 600 on the core without breaking a sweat. I know all cards are different but a lot of people have said certain drivers have gotten better overclocks, or worse.

Yup

Kind of strange, but it must be in the way they coded it.

Well damn, I know what I'll be doing tonight!! My 8600m stays nice and cool compared to other 8600m's at 600+, I knew there was something up.

Drivers may not be the only factor

Sure it does!

I went from a max gpu overclock of 688mhz to 695mhz, by switching to the latest drivers. A small, but noticable. difference.

Yup each driver release can affect overall stability of the card. Might swing clocks up and swing them down. Its luck of the draw on how good the card is and how the driver directly affect parts of the card.

I'm now stable at 550 on the core, as where 530 would artifact like mad. Thats just odd...

I was stable at 580 core on OLD 91.XX drivers I think. But Gears of War went ballistic with those drivers and my DoD 1.3 smoke and muzzle flare didn't work at all so I had to update... Now the best I can get is 563 on core
