Problem with IE address bar

Sometimes when i type in an address to a website I want to go to and hit ENTER IE just goes back to the about:blank website. It only happens on some sites, www.nfl.com www.bodybuilding.com www.howardforums.com www.askmen.com ... what is the problem? Any help?

Also if i click a link it works or goto a different page besides the homepage.

What version of IE? Did you try with firefox? Can you ping them?

Are you running any extra security software or firewall?

Yeah the sites themselves arent the problem... it did the same thing with the old IE and the NEW one.. no extra security software that i havent had before.

so clicking on the links you typed above, it works ok, but typing the same address in does not?

... and also, like DorianBrytestar previously asked, which version of IE are you running (including the OS)?

This happened on both 7 and 6 versions of IE. I have both Ad-Aware professional and Registry Mechanic and keep my computer pretty clean. If i click the links it works fine its only when i manually type in the website I want to visit, and even then its only some links. I am running windows XP. I dont think its that article because it has been happening for longer than a week and I dont think it was after a security update.
