Bridging Chip For Phenom Wait

Hey hey

I'm looking to start building my Phenom rig but I'm (ironically enough) holding off on the Phenom till we here in SA get a price drop and post-errata chips, so I need a brdige chip till then.

Any suggestions? At a glance I'm looking at x2 range 4800+, 5000+ and 5000BE.

Thanks.

I'm in a similar situation. Iím also waiting for B3 phenoms and then for SA to finally get it. Selling my Opty system next week so Iím stuck with only my laptop (absolutely no oc options in bios) till the new chips come out. Worried about oc-withdrawal

How long do yu plan on keeping this bridging setup i.e. will yu be getting a phenom as soon as B3's are out? Cause then I wouldnít waste too much money on a pc yur only ganna keep +- 2months(I really hope no more!!)

Yeah well I dont really know hey, depends on how long it takes for the phenom's to get to a point where I'll consider getting one.

My reason for getting the setup is not because of the phenom though, but purely for Xfire-X so the cpu is a minor part of the setup. But if I'm pushed for a date I'd say till end Feb, maybe end March.

The only difference that should be of concern to you is whether you want to use an after market cooler. BE's do not come with cooler and it will cost much more if you buy one separate. For a place holder I suggest this just because ppl clocked it to 2.8ghz on stock cooling which is good for the price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103774

A fair point especially since I'm looking to go water as soon as I have cash again.

Thanks FlahsMemory

I just checked out some pricelists and there is a BE-2350 (2100mhz) 45W chip for about ZAR 820 wich might be a good option since its been rumored to hit 3Ghz. Just depends if its worth the extra R220 for yu.
What mobo yu looking at?

MSI K9A2 Platinum. Only Xfire-X board that I can find at the moment that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm a big ASUS fan but gawd! There prices are getting out of hand

Thanks for the info on the BE-2350. I'll have a look at it.

Well, there is only about a R400 diff between the MSI and the Asus M3A32 MVP Delux.
I myself was thinking of getting the MSI but some serious bios issues put me off.
I'm gonna dig deep and get the Asus M3A32 MVP Delux/WiFi unless they bring out a ROG AM2+ befor B3 launches

And I do so like ASUS... Looks like I'll get the 4000+ and push up to the M3A32

And for those who were wondering, ZAR/USD conversion is roughly R7 = $1

So just looked at the Tomshardware Phenom Athlon shoot out and according to them the ASUS board mentioned above only does 3 way crossfire...

Anyone know otherwise?

Well, according to the asus website it does support quad crossfire.
"4 x PCIe x16 with ATI CrossFireX™ support, @ dual x16; tripple x16 / x8 / x8; or quad x8 modes"
So it better!
