I just got another 7200.9 today, but I am getting some loud squeaks and what sounds like beeping when it is under load.

It failed the seatools Short Generic 2 times in a row, then it passed 5 times.

is it defective?

I would contact the manufacturer and tell them what's going on.

IMO, it shouldn't fail ANY test, let alone fail it two times out of 5!

If they can't make a suggestion that results in flawless performance w/o beeps, I'd return it.

Grr.. its doing it again.

now both of my 7200.9's are failing the test. WTF I am returning these for something better and canceling the rest.

Now the both pass...Maybe they just need reformatted

Replace the drives as soon as possible. No drive should make 'squeaking' or 'grinding' noises. Also, noises that are intermittent (except for the soft clicking made by the read/write heads) are always an indication of a manufacturing defect.

oh ok, im going to wait until after Christmas since everything is already hectic around here.

I can get it repaired through seageate right? How long do they warrant their hard drives?
