E2140 Overclocking

Hi, I'm having trouble overclocking this processor (e2140). I'm using a really cheap motherboard.

Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2L Motherboard Info

I'm also using 2 x 1 gig DDR2 800Mhz memory.

I've only been able to get to 1.92Ghz (240FSB*8). If I push the FSB any higher it doesn't boot. I've tried upping the core voltage too, but 240FSB seems to be the stable zone.

I've heard these are ment to overclock to like at least 2.4 Ghz, so what am i doing wrong? I've read up on something called a BSEL mod. Do i need to do this? Thanks.

i think your motherboard is your weakness the 945g dont oc for me i sugest a p35 or p965 chipset mobo for some good results.
but can you post the exact bios settings you are using including mem timings.

o and welcome to tha forums

Hey im also having a problem with my e2140. Nothing to do with overclocking though.

It seems as though im not getting as much power as i should be. On CPU-Z it says 1.2 GHz but i should be getting 1.6 GHz.

Any Reason why and also how can I solve this?

Thanks

EDIT: I also havn't touched the CPU nothing has been changed

its because that mobo sucks. You can try increasing MCH/NB voltage and see if that helps at all.

I recommend getting a gigabyte P35-DS3L for >$100.

welcome to the forums!

thats is the EIST kicking in... if your not running it full load 24/7, then leave it on... either way it wont hurt anything.

Your MB could be limiting you but at that FSB and your lack of mentioning your CPU : DRAM ratio, you're probably taking your RAM too far. Try reducing your ratio from its default (1:2) to, say 2:3 (or 1:1.5 depending on your MB's settings). Then, at 240fsb, your RAM will run @ 360MHz instead of the 480MHz it's running at now (or DDR2-720 / DDR2-960 respectively).

He's probably replying to the OP not the speedstep question.
